Severson and Palmieri trades

Description
NJD gets a lot of offers for Severson and Palmieiri.

I have offered a few examples of trades I've see that I would fit from NJD perspective.

Some of these are ambitious or lopsided and some too low of a return - wanted to show types of players/prospects NJD would want to acquire. (as opposed to the frequently seen packages of a few overpaid 4th liners and some late picks)

NJD needs:
- Young dmen
- Right-shot forwards/prospects
- possible goalie prospect

Cap dumps generally cost (per year)
- $5-6 million - 1st round pick
- $3-4 million - 2nd round pick
- $1-2 million - 3rd round pick
- <$1 million - late round pick

Hope that helps.

Well Kasperi Kapanen isnt Wayne Gretzky and he brought in that 15th overall pick and a decent prospect. And I think there’s more of a demand for a number three defenceman that shoots right handed then there is for a middle six winger. Not to mention he’s only $3.2 million with NJ retaining on that deal. Not to mention there is still three years left on that deal. They’re not as far off as you think

Instead of trading for Palmieri the Bruins will just sign a UFA winger that will our produce him while not giving up an asset.

Of course it is. Severson has quite a bit more value than Kapanen does. 15th and Liljegren is probably what it would take but fitzgerald will probably want Sandin.

& Toronto laughs at you. You wouldn't get either prospect plus the 15th overall for Severson. If the pick is a necessity, you're looking at a lower tier prospect cause it's a deep draft this year. Severson isn't worth 2 top prospects.

You’re right they might laugh at us. And then we continue to laugh at the mediocre defence and over 50 years of not winning anything.Toronto’s biggest need is a right handed defenceman and they don’t have a lot of salary to go around. Not many other options. So they can take the chance or maybe move forward with below average defense.

There are plenty of options on Ufa market, at least think a little bit, Severson is not good. Career negative.
He barely gets a first a low level prospect he is more of a two seconds and a mid level prospect type return

Lol. You can't laugh at anyone when you're at the bottom of the standings.

Sandin and the 15th pick is closer to getting a much better d-man than Severson. Leafs gladly walk away.

of course I can laugh. We’ve had a successful team and I’ve seen my team win a few cups in my lifetime. We are rebuilding now. Toronto has been terrible and has barely had any success outside of a 6 team league. There’s a reason why there’s a huge fan base of Non leaf fans in the Toronto area

Of course there are lots of UFA options. But that is going to be a lot harder for the Leafs to sign guys who are going to get overpaid. Severson makes 4.25 and he can be retained. If he was on the market he would be getting $6 million. Virtually every player at the deadline is overpaid.
If you think severson isn’t good that’s fine. How well do you think his plus minus is going to be when he has spend pretty much his whole career on a rebuilding team up against top competition.
How was Morgan Reilly’s +/- when the leafs were rebuilding. Put Reilly in severson a position with ****ty offense like severson had and tell me how well his numbers are. Put severson with Matthews and Marner Tavares and Nylander and things change. There is more to it than plus minus.

The mid market ufas Aren't going to get overpaid, guys like demelo Brodie harmonic so on and so forth will all sign for less than what they wanted because of the flat cap and teams cutting spending. Literally every analyst says its the middle class that is going to be hit the hardest

I'd way rather have demelo at 3.5-3.75 over Severson even retained

How many years is this been said now? Too many teams are too close to the cab and players are going to get what they want. But they still do Jake Gardiner just got with what he wanted last year. Everybody knew right away that he was overpaid by far as soon as he signed. With so much parity in the league and any Of the top 20 teams can be competitive there’s becoming more of a demand for players now

lol. The fact that you judge players based on +/- shows how much you know about hockey. Have fun overrating your players homer.

In a normal year I would 100% agree with that statement, but its nowhere near normal. Multiple competitive teams have already said they will have a lower internal cap and multiple small market teams simply won't be able to afford the cap.

Actually it was somebody else who Was judging Him based on being a negative player. Not me. And it’s not being a homer I’m comparing it to Kasperi Kapanen. When Kasperi Kapanen brought in the 15 pick and a decent prospect I think I have a pretty good argument when I say that Severson actually has more value than Kapanen. Do I think Severson can bring in the 15th and Sandin. Most likely not. But there’s an argument to be had that it isn’t far off which is exactly what I said

You might be right. But I’ll believe it when I see it. I know this is a different season but they also said it on the other seasons. It could also be a way for other teams to try to lower the value of certain UFA players

If you're looking for a 1st rounder outta him, you might be lucky to get just the pick. Wouldn't get a prospect in there. Severson is not good enough in his own end to get both. Sandin and a 1st gets closer to Parayko than Severson. What you're forgetting is that Pittsburgh's desperate to win before their window closes. That's why they slightly overpaid for Kapanen. Toronto's window isn't as small as Pittsburgh so they don't have to overspend for a mediocre upgrade. There's plenty of UFA options out there that would be a better upgrade for what Toronto needs and wouldn't cost any assets to give up. Pietrangelo, Tanev, Demelo, Gudas, etc are all better fits and don't cost any ridiculous assets to get.
