Dubas wins one trade... but too bad he won’t win a first round series tears of joy

He's won some other trades as well

Hyman for McKegg, Muzzin w/o surrendering a roster player, Campbell/Clifford for picks and a small 4th liner, getting out of the Zaitsev deal for one year of Ceci, not retaining on the Marleau deal then recouping the pick a year later

tbh the only deal I'd say he's lost is the Kadri one, but nobody could've predicted a 60 point dman morphing into a useless pylon on the ice in a huge contract year frown

I'd rather have him than GMJR grimace

He overpaid to dump Marleau. No denying that. And overpaid Marner. Also didn’t get enough term for Matthews. As for GMJR vs Dubas... Dubas has definitely made some better moves recently, but Rutherford is still a 3X Stanley cup winning hall of fame GM. He’s one of the great minds in hockey. I still have faith in him. People saying he’s an awful GM are just so short sighted.

Matthews wanted 14 million for 8 years. Not sure what else to say, you give him 5 at a reasonable cap hit. Crosby and Malkin got paid bigger deals for the same term. Lots of stars sign a 5 year deal out of ELC

better to overpay Marner than Jack Johnson or a 31 year old hornqvist ... also better to pay a first to clear cap to sign a star than pay a 1st for a 4th liner

He just admitted in an interview with Jonathan Bombulie that he didn't realize the pens weren't gaining cap space with the matheson trade (https://twitter.com/THEChrisMack/status/1309491899074580482)

However, no doubt he's got a great resume, deserves to be in the HoF. I wouldn't be stupid enough to seriously compare the two, one is in his second year the other is on the verge of retirement with three cup rings

Yeah the Johnson and Hornqvist signings weren’t great. I think the trading the first for a fourth liner was in reference to the reaves deal correct? It was a bit more complicated than that, but safe to say it didn’t work out at all for pit.

Yeah that interview was a doozie. Can’t believe he said that. Probably a good thing we actually gained cap so we can’t sign tanev though

That was minor compared to this stuff. And the reality of that deal was it was moving down a few spots. But we lost Klim Kostin and Oskar Sundquist.

I never liked GMJR from day one. Great guy. HOF guy foo. I’m more of a Craig Patrick / Ray Shero guy.
