Trading for Marner doesn’t make sense for Buffalo. The cost in assets makes them a very top-heavy theme like Toronto already is. They should not give up any of their lower-cost productive assets. At nearly $11 million a year he costs as much as a team should pay their whole 2nd line.
Winning teams get production from all four lines. If you pay half your cap to five players you’re going to have a hard time getting anyone else who will put up what you need them to.
