COL trade is very interesting. Could be a viable plan B for them.

Team looks real good, If I could make a suggestion, forget the Winnipeg trade and move Murray instead somewhere , Keeps the D very strong and as great as Ehlers is and the value is just fine it seems unnecessary for CBJ to spend those assets

plus the opportunity to do the extremely rate "trade a guy for another guy with the exact same name" move.

Like what? That actually is a decent deal. Wennberg is better than an aging Frans Nielsen

Who cares about frans, that wennberg contact is brutal, if you want us to take that cap hit you are going to add a massive piece or you can keep that contract. He is not even close to being good for that value of that contract.

No way Winnipeg excepts a 30 year old rental as a main piece for Ehlers.

You do realize that's not saying much, right? Being better than Neilson is something that at least 80% of the league could say without a doubt.
Even with that in mind, it still doesn't make sense for the Wings to pay for Wennberg. 3 years at $4.9M for Wennberg is a cap dump any way you slice it, and will require significant assets attached to move.

Wennberg is not a player that is completely useless. For his cap hit, sure it is overpriced but not as bad as if the Jackets have to attach a prospect or high pick with him. This would be more of a low risk high reward trade more than a straight cap dump.

He has scored 59 points in a season before. Mind you it was also when Columbus had IMO a worse offensive group. My point is he is more of a change of scenery scenario. The biggest problem with Torts is he blenders the lines so much that chemistry is hard to form. Wennberg is a chemistry player. In a different place he probably would have more success. The Jackets are never going to get full value for him. But the the Jackets aren’t that desperate to where they are going to put high end assets on him to move him. His buyout is very affordable if it came to that.

Lmao Portzline just published an article about CBJ considering a Wennberg buyout and the literal first comment is from a Red Wings fan saying "what if we gave them a 3rd round pick to take on his full salary?"

TBH I don't expect anyone to actually take on his salary for nothing, at this point I think the Jackets will buy him out since the terms are so favorable. But he looked a LOT better in the bubble and I do think that DET would probably be the best landing spot for him. Great change of scenery candidate, good skill, super high hockey IQ (especially in the d-zone) just hasn't been as assertive or aggressive since Tom Wilson turned his brain into apple sauce.

If/when the Jackets buy him out, I'm sure there will be plenty of teams who jump on him as a defensive 3C type, but I'd like to see him get another shake at a top six job on a team that plays a more free flowing game.

I would take him on I'd the jackets added enough for the incentive to make it worth it. Not overkill, but def enough to make us absorb that contract

Again: we're not gonna move him and attach valuable assets. We'll either buy him out, make a hockey trade that involves him, or keep him.
