Description
So hear me out. I was berated for thinking Cirelli is not a top 5 2c in this league. Also that point is in fact the 1c.
This leave Stamkos as a very expensive 2nd rw. So i was thinking "if thats the case" maybe this deal is a go. Let me know what you think makes it work. Tampa will need cap room...

I love Stamkos but, he isn't young, he gets hurt a lot and he costs a lot. Value may be fair but in my opinion Wild should not do this. If Wild were closer that would change things but Stamkos can't fix the Wild by himself.

Stamkos would never waive. We need to get younger, a 30 year old often-injured Stamkos doesn't help us do that. Cirelli should be the target for us in Tampa.

Nope....

C..I..R..E..L..L..I..

Stamkos is past his prime and goes counter productive to us trying to get faster and younger. Otherwise Staal would still be on the roster. Additionally Stamkos as great as he is doesn't rate two 1st's, let alone a top ten or one that's unprotected.

Hard pass from the Wild.

Stamkos is past his prime

1 shot, 1 goal.

His body durability is way past his prime. I would not argue that.

I mean Stamkos being "past his prime" doesn't seem to affect his performance in any way.

The guy is TOP10 C in the world. Value-wise imo this offer falls short.

But by the same token, this offer is coming from the wrong team. Wild isn't the team that Stamkos would
a) help in their current retooling/getting younger process
b) waive his NMC for

I'll admitt it's hopeful that the younger guys can come in and make an impact but if kaprizov explodes some how and greenway is a beast it could be a play off bubble team, you dont want to watch the woest team in the league for years...trust me.

Past his prime may have been too harsh, but it does not change the fact he is too old for what we should be looking to acquire.

He would literally be Staal 2.0 for our organization, without the luxury of a low cost contract. Staal worked and exceeded because his contract was so low for us and because he wanted to stay. Stamkos on the other hand is a very expensive band-aid. 28 should be our maximum age range we should go up to or preferably even younger.

The trade premise is that
C..I..R..E..L..L..I.
Is staying in tampa. You just can't have him.
When you call to get
C..I..R..E..L..L..I.
In fact they say "no sir, we're keeping him in our income tax free state, but Mr. Stamkos loves minnesota for some reason we offer you (the above trade)" do you really not even have a counter offer for acquiring stamkos? You think he's that bad? I think Stamkos can fill in as 1c just fine.
How bout this trade
BUFFALO SABRES for MINNESOTA WILD. I mean thanks you for staal and all, he makes them 30% better but this could easily be the last 5 years all over again. its not easy finding 2c's let alone 1c's so here's an option. Also what are you trading for a 1c if not the picks? Im ok with switching em, protecting them. I mean his contract only takes him to 34. He's got a C on his chest right now. I'm really surprises the MINNESOTA Wild straight up rejects building an offer for stamkos

Stamkos doesn't love Minnesota. Maybe you forgot, but back when he signed that very expensive contract of his to stay in Tampa Bay our GM at the time Chuck Fletcher was widely reported to have been one of the top teams actively trying to get him to sign. We offered him more than what he did sign for and he still turned us down. He didn't want to come here then, and he won't wave to come here now.

We don't want him now because he's outside the age range we should be targeting. Nothing we do is going to make us contenders overnight, so trying to get another player 30 or over doesn't help us. What we do have is a lot of youth between the ages of 23-28 years old, so that's who we should be targeting, and build around other players of that age range who will help us contend in a few years, not now.

Furthermore, Stamkos has a full NMC, your not going to get him to wave. Period. He won't leave Tampa.

Why should I make a counter offer for a player that'll just shoot it down no matter what trade offer is extended?

Good luck trying to get one of Johnson, Gourde, or Killorn to wave either. I don't doubt TB doesn't want to move Cirelli, they want him back, that's a no brainer. But it's going to be awfully uncertain whether they can or not. Not with Sergechev, and Cernak needing to be paid too.

There is no world in the universe where the current version of Stamkos (and his contract) are worth this!!

Full disclosure: I am a person adamantly opposed to acquiring old players, period. The only scenario where I would entertain acquiring someone like the current version of Stamkos is IF the Wild were super duper close to being legit Cup contenders, and they had a ton of cap space, and had a plethora of entry level contract depth to absorb the inevitable time missed from a Stamkos injury or ten. It’s not that he hasn’t been a great player or that there still isnt greatness in him, I just firmly disagree with the “all-in” moves most GMs make. They rarely translate to a team winning the Cup and they are almost always regretted shortly after they are made. So, take this only as one man’s opinion, but I don’t think Stamkos has much trade value at all...
