The Kuemper trade and Andersen trades make sense to me, but I think that the Ekblad trade might be an overpay. I also think the Simmonds contract is a slight overpay, but the roster looks good for sure.

Honestly i feel like you have to overpay for Ekblad in this scenario. They aren't just gonna let a divisional rival get him for fair value imo. The kuemper trade is on the table apparently with the asking team throwing in a first but Arizona wants more (i think this is the flames however though I could see it being toronto).

Kuemper trade requires just SDA, Kivi, and a 1st. Keep the 2nd. You said yourself, 1st rd and prsopects. SDA is a rly good prospect, Kivi is a decent one, and the 1st. That's it.

Ekblad trade is WAYYY overpaid. Why would you trade for Ekblad and sacrifice a 30+ goal scorer on a good contract AND a 15th overall pick and a servicable 2nd/3rd pairing D-man? Nylander and Dermott for Ekblad and a 4th. Or just sign Pietrangelo, and give up Johnson and Kerfoot instead for draft picks. You get assets and a great defender, without sacrificing a core player and a 1st and Derms?

I really don't know if Carolina is that interested in Andersen. IMO it's a CapFriendly obsession. The wings look weak and really hoping some guys are NHLers and some iffy NHLers can play big minutes.

The cost of Ekblad, who still possibly hasn't reached his highest potential of being that high IQ superelite defender, is going to be really high. I think it's an overpay but you're not getting a 4th back for Nylander + Dermott, but I don't know what makes Florida bite. The less you need to give up, the better.

I wonder if the play is to make a trade for Ekblad sacrificing Nylander + or perhaps a Marner deal, and then still signing Pietrangelo in free agency. That blue line would be no joke and the offense would still be elite with Ekblad/Pietrangelo and losing one of the top Right Wings.

that would be insane. Give up nylander, dermott and kerfoot maybe (they're losing haula in the offseason and we rly need that draft pick imo). A top heavy line with Tavares, Marner, and Hyman. Then Robertson, Matthews, and Mikheyev/Johnson. Sign Johan Larson and have Barabanov - Larson - Mikheyev/Johnson on the 3rd line, and simmonds, spezza, and jt brown on the 4th. then rielly - ekblad, muzzin - pietrangelo, and sandin - liljegren.

I'm really trying to make it work that they'll still have space to extend Rielly and Hyman as well, so Pietrangelo is off the table for me. What you said about Ekblad is my thought process with this. Yes it is an overpayment, but this is a young elite defender who hasn't hit his peak yet and was just shy of 50 points this year. Ekblad is both younger and cheaper, and along with this, Nylander would be gone regardless at some point due to cap issues.

Imo the third defense line is bad. You already have lehtonen and i dont feel either Liljegren or Sandin is truly ready yet. I really wanted to not go for Pietrangrelo because he creates so many cap issues

Canes are not trading a first for Anderson

If murrays calling card is a first and kuemper got what he did, Andersen easily gets a low first if he comes with an extension

Kuemper gets a first because he has 2 years left and has been better than Anderson over the last 2 years.

Murray won’t get a first but it could at least be argue that he has won 2 cups

Anderson has won nothing, has 1 year left on his deal, and has been inconsistent. All of that means there is 0 chance ur getting a 1st

The canes were interested in a deal where Mrazek went back the other way. There is 0 rumors saying they are interested in trading a 1st for Anderson

Waddell will not trade a first for a rental, it’s that simple. I’d bet he’d be much more willing to part with that first for a better goalie with term like Kuemper

I have it set really that Andersen would have an extension in place. Also you call Andersen inconsistent, but he has been by far one of the most consistent goalies in the league over his career.
