That's exactly why I did it.
I keep seeing these Chiasson and Virtanen deals from those 2 teams.
It's a way of adding size for cheap if we cant pull off a blockbuster.
They are both very Bergyesk moves.

bergyesk moves don't usually include scratching and burying close to $10M in cap room though.

Virtanen is fine as he has some upside, Chiasson has zero upside and costs too much for what he brings.
He couldn't perform with the studs on his current team, he'd just be dead weight on the Habs.

I must admit I don't know much of his game, but he's a big body and 2 mil for 1 year-who cares?
If we can't get Hall or a big, top 6 winger we're going to make some type of move like this-Bergy did say he plans on going up to the cap this season.

10 Mil with Domi and Mete to sign, that's it. (Jusslen, but wtv-he'll be under a mil).

I meant you have Alzner buried, Byron, Kulak and Juulsen benched.

Chiasson is a 4th liner, and bringing in another 4th liner is a waste, I'd rather they go back after Cousins, I've always enjoyed his game, he grinds hard and can chip in offensively.

Montreal needs to run their current roster, there's no real stars up front, but they have 3 solid lines that can chip in offense, and several contract years means they'll all do slightly better.

Chaisson is a decent bottom six winger who works hard and plays with intensity. He was strong for the Oil in the playoffs and is great as the net front presence on the power play. MTL's power play was middling this year (17th best conversion) not sure what the issue was but Chaisson may help. The conversion rate when he was on the ice with Oil was the best in the NHL. He has size but is a bit slow and that's why we don't play him in our top 6. He is a streaky player and can get hot, he had 22 goals in 18/19. His contract is a bit high for 4LW but he has value.

I don't debate any of that, but who do you displace on the roster on the left side?

Lehk in this roster is the 4LW, and he actually has more upside, plays defensively, can skate.

So, Chiasson brings nothing to this team but physicality, and Montreal isn't designed to bring a slow skating big guy into the team, they are built around speed and tenacity, he'd almost certainly be an instant scratch as the style of player doesn't fit the philosophy of the team.

even if you roll him to the right, with hypothetically getting Virtanen, Virtanen and Armia have more upside. Tatar is your #1, and benching Byron at a higher cap hit doesn't make sense.

Unless Byron is moved, I don't see how you can chase down another 4th liner, makes no sense financially and makes no sense in the style of play

You overthink Byron beeing out of the line up. He has been in and out the line up for nearly 2 years now because of injury.

The depht chart and the salary chart are two different thing.

Once Domi goes, Byron will get more icetime.

As for Chiasson having no "upside", what ever that means, he can still score 10-15 goals a year and play up and down the line up. He did score 20+ playing with McDavid 2 years ago.

Those moves ARE Bergyesque!

Rumours out of Montreal are, this is his last chance, rebuild is done, they need to make the playoffs.

and I don't see this helping..... the presumption is Byron is out in your mind, the presumption is, for a shortened season he's back in mine.
that's a wait and see... Byron can score those 15-20 g

Watching Dallas this year, St.Louis last year;
it's pretty easy to buy into size right now.
Yes, Byron fits our mold of speedy Wingers, but that doesn't really matter as much on a 4th line-which is where he'll top out this year outside of injuries.

Don't get me wrong, I'm using this as an all else failed IE no blockbuster to acquire a top-6 big-bodied winger, or T.Hall(not big, but we need goals and offense).

Virtanen is not signing for that cheap unless it is with VAN.
