I posted this in another Koivu thread but I also basically answered my own question - Koivu is chasing a Cup so why would he sign with NYR? I suppose there is some allure to signing with a relatively low-travel East coast team and then being traded to a contender at the deadline, but does that typically happen with Cup chasing vets? Or do they generally just sign with a team they think is a legit contender right from the start?

I don't question Koivu's motive or desire. Just offer him the deal and sell him on playing with Kaapo Kakko and the potential of this team. He'd be tremendous for Kaapo's development.

Not too familiar with the NYR, but what are they planning on doing with that left side. Kreider, Panarin and Lafreniere is ridiculous...kreider with the NMC too on a biiiig contract. What’s the plan? They clearly need a centre more than left wing. Would they go byfield at the draft? Or try to get one in a trade...

I think Danault would look great as a 2C and would be good for Lafreniere to have a veteran quebecer on the team. Maybe NyR other 1st round pick + Kravtsov or Miller??

I don't know if MTL wants Kreider but I would do that everyday. We can't afford to keep his deal and Danault is everything we need.

Koivu has said he won't play for another team, With that being said him and his brother are part owners of TPS (Liiga) team in Finland so i can see him finishing up his career there playing for the team he owns.

Shame. I would love to bring him in for Kakko. That'd be huge for him.

Kreider is basically untradeable imo because he’s overpaid and he has an NMC. NYR basically have 5 wingers that should be playing top 6 minutes so my expectation is that Buchnevich is traded and Kreider moves over to the right wing. Buch+Carolina 1st for Danault is the move

You notice how Reunanen has not been loaned out to a team? Rangers expect him to make the team and with that Kakko will have a Finland companion on the team. Reunanen and Kakko played together for TPS in Finland
