Description

With the flat cap I think the leafs should move a big contract. I would perfer Tavares but doubt he'd waive his NTC, Matthews is more important then Marner IMO and Nylander wont have the same trade value or free up as much cap space. Ekblad is the top pairing guy the leafs need and is young enough to be a core player moving forward. Burtuzzi is a physical player with a offensive touch that is also young enough to be a core guy moving forward. Simmonds and Gudas add physical play and experince.

Yeah, I kinda agree. TBH both these trades are proably wishful thinking. My thought process with the DET trade is that they get a middle six scorer and a young Dman with top four potential.

Only issue with that is the leafs dont have the cap space for new impactful players without players moving out.

Bertuzzi is a first liner on Detroit right now so we won’t move him for a middle 6 winger and a defenseman that may or may not have top 4 upside.

We have middle 6 forwards and Dermott may turn into a #4 defenseman and in return we give up 1 of our top line forwards. He probably is suited for a 2nd line winger but that is still better than the pieces we are getting back

We could argue this point all day, but division rivals rarely ever trade value for value. Nylander's better offensively and still has room to grow, but Bertuzzi is cheaper and EXACTLY the type of player that Toronto needs, in my opinion.
