Yeah, just to watch him go down the drain in performance, and they are even more screwed for the next 7 years.

7 years. He's already 30 years old look at Karlsson and Doughty they fell off the deep end could be much of the same thing with Pietrangelo. It's not so much the dollar amount it's the term. But with a lesser term comes a lesser dollar amount.
Ok but also look at Giordano, Suter, and Weber. It could be much of the same thing with Pietrangelo there. Those guys are more similar to how he plays anyway.

I think a 7 year deal at $9M is perfect. How do you complain with that?

Oh ****, didn’t even know you posted this. Wtf... that is insane if true.. possibly more negotiating through the media to get everyone’s ufa offer up a bit
I really don't buy this 11.5 number thing. I believe Beast Mode, but whoever said that on NHL Network has to be misinformed. All of the reports have Pietrangelo just around nine and the blues just around eight.
A lot of the squabbling seems to be about contract structure. They want Pietrangelo to agree to a below market AAV and then work out how the contract will be structured- whether it will have signing bonuses and such. If the organization is a bit cash strapped, as a lot of the organizations are, committing to those bonuses could be problematic (look at the Coyotes right now). However, signing bonuses are key for a player to accepting a below market deal- they inherently offer buyout and trade protection, especially now. Player will also be seeking to get a lot of that money upfront, and maybe the Blues can't do that.
