Finding balance between the O and D

Description
LA trade- Dermott is actually 2 years younger than Roy and fits closer to roster age for them. They have a bigger need at LHD than RHD (with Walker and Doughty signed long-term). I would be willing to upgrade that pick to a first if that helps get the deal done, but I don't think it's a crazy thought. I might even ask LA to retain 50% salary that will mean nothing for them but will give Toronto a bit more cap flexibility.

Kept Johnsson and traded Kerfoot, adding Foligno gives an energy player who can also play higher-up in the lineup (a better version of Kyle Clifford). Just on a hunch I think the Leafs brass likes Johnsson more and since his value might be lower right now they'd rather hold on to him.

Larsson and Braun are both defensively responsible players, who while not great, will help the Leafs in their own end. The 3rd line should be able to still provide some offence and can be interchanged with 4th line guys depending on the situation (shutdown line you bring Foligno up and send Robertson down). If you need O you can play Spezza or even Rodrigues up there.

A guy like Braun buys you a year to see how Roy fits and what Lehtonen can do. Also lets Liljegren and Sandin season more. If one or both push for a spot in the lineup this year you can deal Braun at midseason and don't lose anything. Same thought with a guy like Foligno.

Still a bit low for Roy, he was better than Walker last year. The Kings aren't really interested in the pieces proposed but they might do it for the 2021 first (good defensive draft)

I don't think the Wild will trade Foligno. He's a fan favorite, works his butt off, and GMBG really likes him. There's been talk that Foligno may be the Captain next year if it doesn't go to Spurgeon.

Fair enough, I looked around the league at minutes versus roles and time left on his deal. I thought they could use another middle-6 centre (I am not high on Bjugstad).

Oh we absolutely could and I'm not high on Bjugstad either. You could get Greenway, Donato, or Kunin if you're interested. It would probably be close to 1:1 for Kerfoot for each of them.

If MN wants a change in culture Spurgeon should be nowhere near wearing a letter. He can't stand up for himself, let alone teammates. Landeskog will put him on a stretcher with he decides to go after the other team's "C".

I wouldn't do Kerfoot for Kunin from MN. Donato I would, Greenway I probably would.

I tried to get Greenway for Kerfoot and people told me I was nuts. I think he's a great fit for Toronto.

I'd do Greenway for Kerfoot (even) and certainly Donato for Kerfoot (favors the Wild slightly, maybe add a MN 6th or something).

But, @wabit is right that Kunin for Kerfoot favors Toronto too much. We'd probably need a TOR 3rd or 4th, something like that, to make the Kunin trade go.

Also, with Greenway it depends on which week you asked Wild fans. The guy will show up and look like a monster and then vanish for four games and then do it again. I'm sick of that. At this point, I want consistency, youth, and hopefully speed. Greenway only hits one of those, so he should be out IMHO.

He'd never be that kind of player. Suter wears an A and isn't that kind of guy. With Spurgeon it's his work ethic that would get him the C. Unfortunately, he's pretty quiet in the locker room (#Russo), so it's unlikely that he'll get it, but not for the reason you mention. I couldn't care less if our C can lay somebody out.
