That's a big no from Columbus. Beagle doesn't move the needle for us; we need top-6 scoring forwards, particularly a 2C. And we're not gonna take that $3M cap hit for the next two years. Throw in a high pick and we'll talk.

I think the goal of keeping the good pieces of the team together while having enough cap space next offseason (i.e. swapping Eriksson for Abdelkader saves 1.75m for that signing, retaining 50% on Sutter and Roussel trades saves 3m, etc.). This should keep the group together, while removing the bad deals. Then they can worry about Abdelkader, Myers, etc. after Pettersson, Hughes, Demko are signed with the 30m they have next off season.

yeah i mean i guess it could work. Demkos cap hit will be a major wild card in deciding how well

Thats fair. I viewed it as a free upgrade in your bottom 6 center for nearly the same cap hit. I thought about throwing a 3rd /4th round pick in, but decided against it as I would say Beagle is a somewhat decent amount better IMO.

The problem is that we already have a bottom-6 faceoff specialist who's offensively challenged, but he's younger: Boone Jenner. So Beagle really wouldn't help solve our need for scoring forwards.

Beagle being better isn't the point here. His cap hit more than offsets any added on-ice value he offers. You're gonna have to send more to justify us taking on his contract.

Detroit says yes but it makes no sense for Vancouver. Eriksson is less expensive and has less term.

How? Eriksson has 2 seasons left at $6M per so $12M and Abdelkader has 3 seasons left at $4.25M per so $12.75M. Did you mix up Abdelkader and Neilson who has 2 seasons left at $5.25M per or $10.5M thats a savings of $1.5M

Cap space is year by year.

2020-21 4.25 (Abdel) v 6 (Loui) = 1.75 savings
2021-22 4.25 (Abdel) v 6 (Loui) = 1.75 savings
2022-23 4.25 (Abdel) v 0 (Loui) = 4.25 extra

So overall, yes it costs more, but you save more in the years where you need to sign Boeser, Hughes, Demko and Pettersson

Ok but in that 3rd year now all of a sudden you have an extra $4.25M of cap. Trust me no one wants Abdelkader now and that isn't going to change as he gets older. It's smarter to give-up a pick or a prospect and move Eriksson and not bring back any cap. The new CBA states the cap will not rise more $1M in a single season until The NHL's HRR is over $4.8B for 2 consecutive season and hit most likely won't happen until the new TV deal is in place so for the next 3 season the cap isn't going to raise more than $1M each season.

If I’m Columbus I might take this, Beagle and Nash are pretty even skill wise IMO, but Beagle has the cup experience Columbus doesn’t have. If Vancouver retained on Beagle to balance the cap hits it would be an acceptable deal, as it stands is a bit more questionable.

VAN decline both Toronto trades. CBJ decline. Abdelkader is not waiving and Islanders already have enough bottom 6 forwards.
