As much as I wish that could happen we likely cant get away with not giving up assets for getting Boychuk off the books

They do need to make these moves, but it's gonna cost them more than that.
Boychuk at 36 for two more year at 6 million AAV needs a kicker. Marleau cost the leafs a first for one year at 6.25 (I think)
Leddy is younger and cheaper than Boychuk and should fetch a return, but not a 2nd IMO.

The issue with cap clearance is if you don't do it early it holds up all your other signings and opens you up to offer sheets. The Kings won't pay that much for Leddy because although we like him, the longer we wait, the better our deal gets, and we certainly won't be moving the 35th overall pick for any of the pieces you are presenting here.

Depending on how soon players sign and the offseason progresses it may or may not be a problem. Remember that teams can go 10% over the cap during the offseason. That is $89.65M

As far as the compensation, Leddy is worth at least a 2nd. However it comes back to order, For the LA to trade a 2020 pick the trade must be completed by the draft. (If it happened then it would no longer be leverage for an offer sheet as offer sheets can not occur till free agency.) however LA does have 3 seconds this year and 2 next year. I would imagine STL 2nd in 2021 could be the comp.

Pass, the Kings might take Leo for Leddy and nothing coming back, but no futures are moving.

Columbus can’t really afford to be taking cap dumps, we need all the cap space we can get and with Dubinsky being LTIR and most of if not all of his contract being insured (meaning we don’t have to pay him much) we really can’t afford Leo unless you’re willing to take cap back.

How so? Marleau's deal was 6.25mil for 1 year (1.25mil actual cash). Boychuck's is 6mil for 2 years (4mil actual cash), which is similar cap hit, for double the term, and three times as much actual money, and we're now in a flat cap world. Plus everyone knows the Isles have to clear cap to sign their RFAs (you can tell me you can just trade Leddy, Komarov, and Cizikas or whatever we're talking about dumping Boychuck, not dumping them) so nobody is just gonna help them for no reason

Per Frank Seravalli, it's 100% insured, so there's zero $ cost.
