This is just one scenario where the Oilers could land AP.
He’s getting $9 m per for 7 years somewhere I’m sure. This would revamp the Oilers D and give them an identity that would last for years to come.
Athanasiou signing is a Qualifying Offer do it has to be at least 100% of what he made last season. It’s a one year prove it deal.
Cody Eakin is a one year prove it deal as well.
Nordstrom is a solid 4th liner. Kills penalties and can skate. Won a Cup with Chicago.
2 salary dumps. Substantial payments with picks and prospects.
At the Draft I think they should grab Askarov if he’s there at #14. Otherwise BPA.
Mike Smith gives them insurance until either Konovalov or hopefully Askarov are ready to come over.
The trick is obviously getting AP to sign in Edmonton over lots of other places. They have one of the best arenas in the world, 2 of the best players in the NHL. He might be enticed.
