So Detroit gets Paul Statsny+Vegas 2020 1st round pick for Glendening $900,000 retention+2020 2nd round pick Edmonton+2020 2nd round pick Washington Yeah don't think so we're not giving up those 2nd round picks.

Zero reason for the Jets need to move frenchies cap. No big UFAs are signing here so we have lots of space to ride out his last year. I actually want Chevy to take on a short term dump for an extra asset or two at or before the draft.

Not a big fan of these cap dump trades and I can’t tell you don’t follow Detroit with the roster (no Hronek).

Yzerman would rather have two 2nd round picks than one 1st if they’re not super far apart. The more picks/prospects the better

I really thought people were going to be upset about it from Vegas' point of view.

Doing something like this is a great move for Detroit as, as long as stastny is still decent and healthy you retain at the deadline and likely get a 2nd back

I specifically chose Washington and Edmonton so they aren't early seconds.

Also you can probably retain and trade for another second Stastny at the deadline.

Idk man, if this is all it takes to move Perreault I'd do it, if there was ever a year the Jets might be able to sign a decent free agent it'd be this one, taking on a short cap dump might not be a bad idea either though, the Jets are one of the few teams that have any cap space.

I’m a DRW and VGK fan. The VGK deal I wouldn’t do from a Vegas perspective because I think you can find someone that wants Statsny and Glendening isn’t needed. The Islander deal doesn’t have enough coming to Detroit and Wilde (RD) would be behind Hronek, Seider, and around Tuomisto. We were so loaded at the position Yzerman traded Regula. The Minnesota trade isn’t too bad considering it’s ~40OV so I’m neutral on it. Perreault I’d want a second rounder or 2x 3rds and I don’t think Jets do it unless they’re going big fish FA hunting.

I guess my question for something like Perreault is why do you need a second not a third? Is there a player in the organization your rather have there? Would you rather sign a free agent and not get the third in the first place?

Barring offersheeting a Barzal/Pulock/Cirelli or Cernak, I don’t see any huge moves that would require the cap space that would require us to move Perrault. Pietro would be the only UFA that would cost big dollars and really don’t see him coming here. If a blockbuster deal is made that would require Frenchie to move, so be it, otherwise it’s a waste of assets.

Honestly I did it last second. I had the roster set minus that trade and mused who to do the last trade with. Thought about him. Ericsson but they don't have a first to trade.

There actually don't seem to be too many bad contracts with only two or less years left

It’s actually a great idea, and there will be teams burning assets to move cap to fit under not only the stagnant cap, but teams internal caps. Lots of cap hits that can be moved, and will have to be moved to make room for signings, bonuses, players coming off of ELCs with new contracts. Like I said, I would love for Chev to take one on short term for an extra 1st or good prospect

Detroit has a ton of bottom six guys. As far as wingers go down there I’d like to see what we have with Smith, Svechnikov, Rasmussen, and Timashov. We are already paying Helm so there’s another. Personally I’d rather use the cap space to acquire a top 4 LD since I think you could get a guy like Dillon for roughly the same AAV or maybe 500k more to secure the deal.

My main reason for a second rounder vs third is the probability of that pick panning out.

I don’t think Islander fans view Wahlstrom vs Wilde as the same value. I highly doubt they’d agree to move Wahlstrom as they will need his ELC.

Don't think the Jets should sign a dman or two in free agency or get one in a trade from say a cap crunched team that needs to give someone away?

You also forgot a RHD--Lindstrom. Regula trade was a gamble that Yzerman lost on.

If Madison Bowey gets a 3 year contract, Yzerman will immediately become a worse GM than Holland and I will stop watching for 2 years.

Weaponizing cap space then proceeds to deal with teams with cap room? No that's not weaponizing cap space. Weaponizing cap space means something like offer sheet to Tampa's Sergachev at 2nd round level (2x $4,363,095), St. Louis' Dunn. I doubt they sign those, but it poisons the well of their teams making low-ball offers and might set in motion the ability to extract another player from them. You could certainly do it with Cirelli though.

Otherwise weaponizing cap space means you are acquiring a bad contract plus a 1st rounder. Not having to give up 2x 2nd plus a 3rd line player.

I’d consider this offseason a fail if Yzerman isn’t able to leverage teams with our cap space. Whether that means acquiring premium picks (first or second rounders) or young players in exchange for cap dumps (eg Teravainen/Bickell). I really hope Chris Illitch doesn’t restrict Yzerman with an internal budget.

Absolutely we should. I doubt a big name D UFA will sign here (Pietro, Brodie, Dillon etc) and the Centre UFA market is pretty thin, so I think our best option is taking on a cap dump for a potential 2C or RHD. We may get a cheap signing like Hamonic but he won’t be a game changer for us. Could get a guy like Leddy for cheap. 2 teams that have the pieces we need, TBay and Isles, I would play hardball with them to try and pry one of Barzal, Pulock, Cirelli or Cernak. They will have a VERY hard time keeping all of them, especially now that most teams have indicated that they have internal caps to stay under.
I would wait until after we pick at 10 to see who we draft (c or d) and try to strongarm the other from one of the two. Go in with a trade offer of young ELC roster player (Vesa for example) mixed with futures (picks) and if they balk, offersheet ASAP. They would have a very hard time moving the cap required to match and would decimate their depth. (Imagine TBay losing 2, 3 or all of Killorn, Gourde, Palat and TJ just so they could protect their 4 RFAs)
Lots of options for Chevy, so long as the Chipman and Co. are on board.

Offer sheets are super rare and require the player to sign, I doubt a player would accept an offer sheet "ASAP". Likely they would talk to their team...

I just meant to put as much pressure on the GM. I know the chances of a big name RFA signing an OS here are slim but I’m kinda hopeful
