Not sure plethora is the right word when taking all the contract, giving up a better pick and sending back no cap is the criteria.

LA and NJ weren't cap teams this season and, probably, won't increase spending next season.

So reports are almost half the league is operating on a reduced budget for next season, meaning any cap dump is going to cost a killing. To be a team with space this season is going to be very profitable. But they have to be smart as well. Look at Ottawa, sure they have space but they also have a budget and a cheap owner, they won't be helping much. Getting rid of cap space is going to be incredibly costly. Leddy is a cap dump, so is Boychuck (although using a 1st is what you'll have to do). Now how many teams are also cutting costs? 15 other teams? If not more. If I am a GM with space, I am either asking for the moon, or I am just not helping anyone and then preying on teams that can't afford their high value RFA's.

Change the Leddy deal to Leddy for a 2021 7th rounder and you have a deal.

Players making 3ish million that play middle 6 are not cap dumps....I know you got mad but be realistic...Leddy is an ok defenseman but makes too much...more of a cap casualty...but in these times it's basically a cap dump

Mad lol - the flat cap hurts his value in a trade. If the cap was going up he would return a 2nd. He’ll get a 5th or 6th at best right now.

Apart from Leddy being older, and showing decline over the past 4 straight seasons. Other than that, and making more money than any of those guys, yeah they are the same

I disagree that Leddy is a cap dump but everything else you said was spot on, what else I think is lost by many on this site is soooo few teams have any cap space as it is, even if the cap had gone up by a couple million it still would've been pretty tight for a lot of teams, now tack on a flat cap and an internal cap for what's sounding like half the league it has me thinking that all the movement we think will occur might not happen.

A wise GM with cap space and an owner that's willing to use it should be able to collect some nice assets for taking some dead weight off of teams hands that need to open up cap space.

It's not a leafs bias, it's factual. Across the board his advance stats have plummeted for 4 straight seasons. He's at best a below average 3rd pair defenceman who can score points sometimes. I could care less who he played for, he just isn't good anymore. So with that in mind and the fact he costs a lot and the current economic climate, as well as the need the Islanders have to cut salary, why would anyone ever help out a team in a terrible cap situation?

Kapanen has had terrible advanced stats the last 2 years and Montreal just gave a 7D 3.5 mill.

Leddy just had a great playoffs on a team that went to the ECF and he has a flashy skill set. He’s a 2nd pairing D. He will have no problem being moved.

It's hard to say. If I was a GM on a team with space, I'd convince my owner to let me either offer sheet or just demand insane packages for any cap dump. Oh you want to trade Boychuck? I want Walhstrom, a 1st and a second for a 7th. Tampa, The Islanders, The Rangers, Edmonton, Vancouver, those are just a few teams that look like they have to cut costs. I am not sure there are 5 teams with space and the want to use it. Ottawa for example could just hold teams ransom and try to get young RFA's instead and force teams to hold onto older players

Sorry man I'm lost.. Lol

Originally you said he makes 7, he makes 5.5, might be a bit much but he moves the puck well, could be a solid partner for Pionk, wouldn't give much for him though.
