People need to realize there is no way Peitro is signing in Toronto for 8 million. He wouldn't sign that with the blues (rumour is that is what they offered). 9 is the minimum.

I'm not disagreeing with you that he probably won't sign for 8M with Toronto, but the couple of articles on Athletic I read about the issues around his negotiations were centered mainly around the fact the Blues were unwilling to reveal the structure of the contract. The cap hit rumoured was 7.7 AAV and he's on record saying the number isn't everything leading some to speculate if it's a 7 year deal that's structured as front loaded as cap compliant possible and with a signing bonus laden back end of the deal he may sign for a lower cap hit. So it's conceivable if he's interested in signing with a team like the Leafs, which has been rumoured as well (as much as this and many other fan sites aren't interested in hearing), he would take something in the neighborhood of 8-8.5 on a 7 year deal if it's something like;

Yr 1 - 10M
Yr 2 - 10M
Yr 3 - 10M
Yr 4 - 8M
Yr 5 - 6.6M
Yr 6 - 6.6M
Yr 7 - 6.6M

8.257 AAV

All years with all but 750K as bonuses paid out in lump sum, it could be doable. Toronto is one of the few teams that can use bonuses to their advantage in negotiations.

Ok, I could see why he might go for something like that. My prediction (of course, there is absolutely no guarantee he signs with the leafs) if he signs is 9milx7years.

The Blues apparently (no one really knows) offered 8.5m...pre Covid. Not saying they are offering that much now. 9m is the minimum....why do say that? Don't know of any team that is going to offer him that much.

Because because he turned such a deal down. He didn't want 8 mil. So, that means if he comes to the leafs, he will likely get 9 mil.

How do you know he turned down a 8m deal from the Blues? Post Covid, the rumour is (and it just as factual as your statement) that the Blues never even offered him 8m.
Blues can't afford or turn want his cap hit. No reason the Leaf can afford him either without getting a lot weaker in multiple positions.

I mean, I guess I don't really know. But it was just a circulating rumour that he was offered 8.5 by the blues. So why would he sign cheaper with the leafs? Maybe he would, and I hope he does. But I can't see it happening.

I'll agree that Blues offered him 8.5m....but it back in February. No agreement between the two parties. Post Covid, flat cap for two more years, the Blues...rumoured...is have offered 7.7m in the past month
So I don't understand why folks are so fixated on pre Covid offers or even comparables to silly UFA contracts from the past. It's a new world. There just aren't many teams that can offer Pietrangelo 8m without eliminating current roster players. And how many teams are "acceptable" to Pietrangelo? Betcha not many. Most high priced UFAs just don't have leverage now to negotiate meaningful with 20 teams, must just be 5 teams now

Yes, that right. And as we know...it only takes one to go "off the board". IMO, PIetrangelo best option might be Philly. They have cap, it's "close" to Pietro;s new home base in St Louis. IMO Leafs, Blues, Flyers might be the only "good" teams that might be acceptable to PIetrangelo, and who can make a good $$$ for him.

I heard Vegas and Calgary might be on that list too. But outside of those 5, I can't really think of anywhere he would go.
