Reasoning on Ekblad trade:

BB, Juolevi, Rafferty equivalent to 3 first round picks

Matheson's contract is generally deemed as unmovable. Taking on that contract should be a value of a minimum two 1st round picks

Sutter should be able to be flipped for a mid round pick at the TDL
Beagle with salary retention can probably be flipped for a late round pick at the TDL

Adding in the Canucks 2021 1st rounder, I'd argue the Panthers would get around value of around six 1st round draft picks for Ekblad and financial flexibility going forward

The Canucks get a stud 1st pairing D but a pricy reclamation project in Matheson who can hopefully have value in a 3rd pairing sheltered role in the future once surpassed on the depth chart by Rathbone

Just because players were taken in the first round doesn't mean that's what their value is now.

Let's split that up, would you trade a 1st Rd pick one for one for Boeser? Juolevi? Rafferty?

Also, if Beagle and Sutter can be so easily flipped for mid round picks, why don't the Canucks just do that?

How are Rafferty and Juolevi equivalent to 1st round picks? One is a 25 year old undrafted player with 2 games of NHL experience and the other is an extremely underwhelming high draft pick who projects to be nothing more than a bottom pairing defensemen in the NHL if he even sticks.

I don't get to watch as much as I used to but is Matheson really that bad? Like 2-3 years ago he was an up and comer. What happened?

VAN is not moving Boeser also Panthers are not in a position to be trading away the only guy who can actually play defense. Also VAN is not bringing Matheson onto the team after the Pettersson incident.

I don't like the idea of Montreal trading a 2nd for Virtanen. I'd rather just an upgrade. Perhaps a guy like Weal or a similar player and a prospect.
