I could see him taking that. Obviously a bit low but the market may not develop this year because A) teams don't have cap space, B) lots of teams don't have cash, and C) the teams that have one don't have the other (Toronto has money upfront but no space, Colorado has space but not lots of money, STL doesn't seem to have either, etc.) I think Montreal is the only landing spot where he could get paid well but I don't know if they even want him now that they locked Edmundson in.

SJ will give that pick for Kerfoot, but not Johnsson.

What makes you think Colorado doesn’t have cash?

7x10 in canada, 7x9 in the US, 7x8 in a tax free US state.

I was talking about the structure of the contract, specifically signing bonuses. That's why he's not talking to STL anymore, because they don't want to tell him the structure until they can back him into a corner and refuse to give him anything up front (and usually don't pay out signing bonuses). With the uncertainty around covid, he'll want to get paid as much as possible upfront so that in the event next season gets shut down at some point, he's not losing out on a lot of money. Taxes have little to do with it.

Taxes have a toooooooonnnnnnn to do with it. You can find information on that on this very website. It has an absurd amount to do with it.

Anyway, you didn’t answer my question, what makes you think Colorado doesn’t have cash? The last big contract they signed was heavily front loaded.

The last contract was signed before all NHL teams revenues went way down... perhaps that hamstrings the leafs a bit but I’m thinking the leafs will get out in better shape than most other teams including Colorado. Plus (if you use twitter) read what Allan Walsh posted. That explains a bit how taxes aren’t as important as ppl make it out to be.

I’ll listen to the players who says it is, thanks.

Colorado is doing fine financially.
