Avs aren't giving a 1st for Saad. If they were willing to give up that much they could go after someone who would have a much bigger impact

LOL okay, who do you think you're getting with a much bigger impact for a 1st then Saad? I mean top 20 two way winger in the game who was on pace for 30 goals; I'm really curious here who you think you'll get that is better for a 1st.

Wondering, if the Jets just took Keith or Seabrook as a cap dump of sorts, what do you think would the Hawks have to give up to dump the salary?

Off the top of my head Tatar and Palmieri would both be better. I'm not saying Saad isn't good, just saying he's not worth a 1st

IDK, if you can get someone like... Barclay Goodrow for a first round pick. You gotta do it.

He's not a cap dump; not a chance the Hawks are moving him as such either

You definitely aren't getting Tatar for a 1st even if MTL is going to move him and pretty sure NJ can do better on Palmieri.

The biggest issue people who don't know Saad miss, the guy is awesome defensively, great in all 3 zones, plays the PP and PK. Hawks keep getting offers for a 1st for Saad and Hawks keep turning them down for good reason.

May have to add a little bit to get Tatar/Palmieri, but if were giving up a 1st already why not add a little more and get the better player?

If either are made available, there is going to be a bidding war for them just like Saad. None of them go for a 1st alone. If you think Palmieri is exponentially better then Saad, I would debate that, then you are giving up that much more then Saad.

Montreal is trying to compete so they aren't giving up Tatar unless it makes them noticeably better so it would be a good player you the Avs are giving up which for a team competing for the cup is counterintuitive.

If I was Sakic and there was a bidding war for those guys Id back out before the price went much higher than a 1st. There are too many guys available this offseason and too many teams with cap troubles to justify paying so much for one. If you can get a 1st for Saad from another team then great, but I dont think it will be from the Avs. Sakic has never traded a 1st round pick, and the only time COL has traded a 1st for a rental was Adam Foote, who signed an extension with them anyway.

If were bringing in a fwd for 1 year Hall would be my first choice, besides the UFA route I would be very hesitant to move a 1st for a rental. If theres multiple years left then Id be much more inclined to use a 1st in a package (maybe Rakell), but even then I think we could land a guy like Palat or Killorn from TBL for much cheaper

So the interesting thing about never trading a 1st, was the Avs were never in position for a very serious cup run until now. Until the last 2 seasons (this one included), it's been 10 years and more since the Avs were in the conversation for a cup. For a team with a bunch of young talent coming together that can make a run, the first round picks don't matter nearly as much as adding a big piece to compete. That's why you haven't seen Sakic trade a 1st.

You aren't getting any of these guys for just a 1st; maybe Palmieri. I would be shocked if Hall signs a 1 year but I'd suppose anything is possible. TBL is interesting with what they are going to do. The UFA market besides Taffoli, Hall and Hoffman is not rich and Hoffman is definitely not a player the Avs should want for their system. Taffoli could be a good fit.

Saad is a rental and every year we see very few rentals return a 1st rounder. I don't think Saad is the type of player who would be good enough for that. A 2nd and a mid prospect is probably his ceiling there and that probably even involves eating some of his cap hit

Widely reported the Hawks have turned down multiple offers for a 1st for Saad over the last 18 months; going back to the 18/19 playoffs all the way up to the TDL in the current season. Saad is absolutely worth a 1st, but since the Hawks continue to turn down those offers, pretty sure they won't move him unless the Hawks are absolutely out of it at the 20/21 season TDL. Personally, I prefer the Hawks to extend Saad for 5 years at $4.5M.

Thats definitely a fair point, but even in the last 3 seasons where the Avs made the playoffs Sakic has never traded more than a 3rd at the deadline. I think thats a testiment to how patient/stubborn he is when looking to add players for short term gain. I dont think Saad is the type of player that will get him to move a 1st for.

Hall, Dadonov, Toffoli, Hoffman, Saad, Tatar, Palmieri, Killorn, Palat, Johnson, Stepan, Stastny, Anderson, Laine/Ehlers, JVR, Dzingel, Johnsson, Kessel, Bozak, Hornqvist, Athanasiou, Smith, Namestnikov, Granlund, etc.

All Fs who could potentially be available this offseason. To be fair, not all of them would be good targets for COL, and the prices for them vary a lot, but the sheer number of them available is enough to flood the market. With a flat cap and many teams cutting salary it will definitely be a buyers market. Im confident there will be some available for cheap, and thats where Sakic should look first before looking to give up a 1st

Whoa, hang on....that's all over the map. Take a guy like Stastny and he's in cap dump territory or Dzingel. I mean I get what you're trying to say, but as always, there are far fewer available players available then potentially available; Tatar, Ehlers and Laine jump off the page here.

Hard to say what will happen in a partial season, might even end up getting cancelled, especially when revenues aren't there for the lesser teams. I think Saad is a perfect fit for the Avs and mainly because of his defensive play and PK play which is a need for the Avs and not so much pure offense.

Yeah obviously available players are gonna range in value a lot, just trying to put into perspective the number of Fs available compared to the number of teams looking to add them. Not all of those guys will be moved, but not for a lack of trying to move them (I admit Tatar/Laine/Ehlers probably to a lesser extent than others, but you get the point).

I don't disagree that Saad would be a good add, I'm just saying there will likely be similar quality players available for a fraction of the price you're asking for Saad, or even for free (trade asset wise) via free agency

I’ll pipe in, I’d much rather have Saad than Tatar who has done absolutely zero the last 2 playoffs he has played in, and I like Saad’s 2 way game better than Palmieri. I agree that the Avs 1st rd picks are far more expendable now especially considering they KNOW they have at least 6 NHLer’s in the wings including 2 high end talents in Byram, Newhook, Timmins, Kaut, LOC, and Bowers. That being said they also shouldn’t be throwing away 1st rd picks because after those guys there is a solid tier of prospects but they also have question marks or are much further out. In my ideal off season they convince Hall to sign a 3 yr deal, use some combination of Graves, Zadorov, Jost and picks for a lock down defensive dman or an obvious upgrade in net and outside of Burakovsky no RFA gets more than a 2 yr deal.

Right but Saad with mutliple years is worth far far more than him on 1 season. So thats not relevant.

It is when it was just a few months ago at the TDL and it was Saad for a 1st plus. Teams who are competing for a cup at TDL, care way more about the cup then a player's term which is why you see so many rentals (with only a few months left on their agreement) going for big prices over the last several years. Cup teams usually don't have much cap space and as such, they can't acquire players with term. The historicals over the last few years show how relevant it is.

Again Saads value then =/ Saads value now. This will be the lowest his value is as in the offseason there are no cap constraints, teams don't know where they stand next year and there will be plenty of other options out there.

If Chi can pull of a 1st for him then thats great, but in this environment, especially with him being overpaid, I wouldn't expect it

How is Saad overpaid? He was on pace for 30 goals in the regular season, is built for the post season with over .5 ppg in his post season career and demonstrated that yet again this post season.

Two reasons people on here or elsewhere knock Saad:
1) He will never live up to the trade the Hawks made with Panarin. It was one of the worst trades in recent hockey memory and although not Saad's fault, he carries that with his name.
2) Saad was fighting injuries 2 years ago and didn't have a good season and for some reason, especially around here, people think he's overpaid.

Bottom line, the guy is a top 20 two way winger. I'd hate for the Hawks to lose him and hope they can extend him as such but too many rumors swirling about Saad potentially getting traded this year. I agree his value at the TDL is a 1st and 3rd not right now though.
