Not in the long run. Those two contracts will not age well.

I think so. If they get Pietrangelo signed, they would have a more balanced line up and would also have whatever they get back for Marner (top 6 forward plus picks). Would not sign Hoffman, whichever team takes Marner is going to have to send salary back the other way.

How is this plausible? Neither Marner or Johnsson can simply be LTIR'd just because you want to dump their contracts. And paying that much for Hoffman is just ridiculous.

In short-term, it probably is...

But we haven't seen Marner at RHD yet

We'd get a large number if futures for greedy Mitch though.

Hoffman would be great on Tavares' wing.

Trade them for picks. Just didn't want a controversy over the return for them.

Hoffman had much better production than Hall. Would you give Hall 7M?

At some point Toronto will have to decide to go for it in the near future. Currently the team cannot get any further than the first round, so making a change like this is at least trying something different, and fixing an obvious weak point in the line up. If 4-5 years down the road the team suffers from the contract, what is the difference from today's current situation, at least the next few years they should be competing for the cup.

Show me the marner trade and maybe I will have an idea. Not many teams can take his salary.

Toronto won't be able to afford him. They will need to take some cap back, and Johnsson has to be accounted for, currently he is buried on LTIR.

Couple of things: Hoffman is two years older than Hall. His production was a little better for one year. Hall has won a Hart; has Hoffman ever been nominated? Hall played on a defense-first team with guys who didn't score a lot. So, there is a slight difference.

Is Marner a difference-maker? Is he going to be a cornerstone piece for a young team looking to contend in a few years? If not, who is going to take him and that contract? Dubas stepped in it on that one.
