The Bickell/Teravainen deal was terrible for Chicago too, but they had to make sacrifices. Getting Boychuk's $6m off the books is worth throwing Toews in, who is good, but by no means irreplaceable.

In what world is Toews not replaceable? He's not Heiskanen. He's an above average, puck moving D-man. You have to make sacrifices in order to fit people under the cap. Chicago did what they had to do. Lou needs to do the same.

Maybe we shouldn’t be giving up our best two way defenseman. Toews is more valuable to the islanders than pelech, he’s the ONLY isles defenseman that can drive play at an elite level.

Leddy, mayfield , and even pelech should be traded ahead of toews

I do think Leddy is worth a third or a late second, but I believe the Kings are holding onto all draft picks for this draft (and only using them to move up), Kings would likely do next years third OR take on Leo and Leddy for Future considerations.

Maybe you should be more open minded and realize that your subjective take on toews is wrong. Every advanced stat out there indicates toews is elite at 5v5 , yet you want to trade him to dump a contract.

The defense you constructed has 2 puck movers and 4 defenseman that are strictly defensive defenseman and the defense got much slower. One injury to Dobson or pulock and the team is screwed. Also pulock can’t QB a PP so is the move to keep Dobson out for the full 2 minutes?

Nobody will pay you for Hickey. He’s an AHL defenseman making 2.5 mil. He won’t cost a lot to dump but nobody wants him unless you add a sweetner
