Description
Thoughts on Strome trade Winnipeg fans? Would he be someone you think we should target or avoid? Just throwing out different options than I normally do, I wouldn't be opposed to trying him out if the price was right...

Far too much for Strome without a new contract. This Strome is far closer to an average 3C that he is to a 2C. He's also looking for a new contact, which will be his last pro contract if it is long term. So, I would think he'll either be overpaid for what he is, or force his way to UFA as soon as he can.

I mean if he signs for 4.25Mx3 it's worth it but he'll probably get around 6Mx1 through arbitration.

Contract predictors have him getting close to 8M on an 8 year deal.

He is RFA so he would essentially be under our control but I get your point. That's why I would probably only pull the trigger if we knew we could sign him to a reasonable contract extension. I think this year was obviously an outlier in regards to his performance (thanks Panarin) but I still think he would fit nicely between Ehlers and Laine. All of this depends though, I thought value was pretty close but maybe I'm giving too much.

Honestly Copp would be just as good as Strome at 2C, that guy got the definition of carried by Panarin last year. If we aren’t getting a difference maker, someone like Cirelli, Danault, Domi, even Dylan Strome, then we should just hang on to our assets now and give Copp the 2C role for now

Not a bad point, I completely agree Strome got carried haha, but he was still able to play fairly well in the 2C role, which is why I could see him doing okay with Ehlers and Laine. I agree a bigger target like the ones you mentioned would make a lot more sense for us long term too. Also, I absolutely love Copp but every time we tried him there it was just "meh." I wouldn't mind trying Rosy first but who knows!

Yes, he is RFA with 2 more years of team control I think? He's never shown any inclination to be more than a 3C other than last season, so for me he's a plan C or D kind of guy. I would move like a 3rd for him with a reasonable contract in place, less if he's coming with no contract. But your offer isn't outrageous and I might be low as I don't see him as a fit.

And all of this is dependent on Little being on LTIR for the entire season. If possible try to trade Perrault and his contract (no return necessary) for cap space.
For 4.25m maybe the Rangers just keep him, since they don't aren't deep in at the centre position.

Yeah it’s deceiving because Copp played pretty well in that stint actually, he was covering for a lot of Laine’s and Connors defensive problems. So he was providing to that line, when those two got put with Scheifele... that line was constantly getting hemmed in all night. So sometimes you got to take the good with the bad I guess lol

Absolutely, I am pretty confident based on everything I've read that he will not play again but who really knows besides him right? If he were to return, moving Perreault would definitely be the next option to create cap space (that is if someone is willing to take him.)

There are so many "Perraults" or in the Leafs case, "Johnsson" they teams want to move to create cap space for another player. Just so many sellers and not enough buyers.
Take Johnsson. He contract and "playing value" is let's say a second rounder. But his "trade value" with no cap returned to Leafs is a 7th rounder. Leafs take that 3.4m free cap space, and use to sign a needed position like DeMelo. So in essence it's a trade DeMelo and a 7th rounder for Johnsson. Leafs take that. But trying to find the buyer is the issue, and in Perrault's case his NTC just might a factor.

I think the Rangers are worried about what his arbitration award could be coming off a 70 point pace if they played 82 games. I'm honestly not sure what to make of him. Initially I thought he might be the perfect target for us to play between 2 skilled wingers because he put up so many points with Panarin and he's a bit gritty, kills penalties and is a decent play driver.

The thing that gives me pause is comments like this one and the fact that all the Rangers mock lineups on here don't include him and they are trying to find a 2C to play behind Zib. If he's not the Rangers solution at 2C should he really be ours? I'm wondering if it's just a Cap issue because they can't afford his arbitration award of $6.5M.

For the right price I'd want to bring him on for the year and see how things go. We have the cap for his arb award if that's the way things go and would have first crack at extending him. Typically players need to come and play here before they're willing to sign here so he could be a good fit, although not my first choice.

Hayes got $5m in the exact same boat with the same cap. Doubt Strome comes in higher. But Evo has him projected at 4.75m for 1 year, 7.3m for 8 years and 6.3m for 7 years, which would be the max wpg could do. The 5 year projection is $5,8m which actually sounds logical especially if he has just found his ceiling and will be a good 2C that declines slowly to a 3C but 5 years he is 32 at the end of his deal, so could be a solid add. That being said, i'm not fond of a 2021 2nd for the Rangers and think they could get a 2020 2nd for him elsewhere and that would be the goal for me in moving him.

You comment above kinda looks like the Leaf situation at centre. So many posts want to trade 3C 3.5m Kerfoot and then think they are going to find an equally competent centre at 1.5m
Or in the cap strapped Leafs case, down grade at centre, at RW (Nylander), trade the competent 2m Holl, just so they sign Pietrangelo. Never sure how this helps the Leaf on the ice, but it does acquire the mystical RHD.

Very true! And this year most of all cap space is at the utmost premium. Perreault's is an M-NTC with only a 5 team no trade list thankfully but I get your point!

Exactly. How many top 6 centers in the league play with only bums on the wings? Like its not like he is Crosby, but the amount that Strome's value is penalized on this site for clicking with Bread compared to like Auston Matthews being considered a god even when he has Marner on his wing (and before you get all butt hurt TML trolls, i know Strome isnt even in the same universe as Matthews, just illustrating a point). II mean what a shock that top 2 lines Center might have good wingers to play with...
