There's noting to run from. Engvall's last goal was against Ayers. He has done nothing in the playoffs

CBJ won't take a 2022 2nd-rounder for Anderson. We need assets that will make a difference a lot sooner than that. And chances are looking better and better that we sign him ourselves.

Separate question: I know the Leafs just finished paying off their LTIR commitments... would they go back to that if it helped them find the room to sign Pietrangelo or make a similar move? Brandon Dubinsky's $5.85M is fully insured, so there's no cash that they'd need to shell out, and it would all go on LTIR.

Well considering you've got 2 fwds that can PK, may want to reconsider on Mikheyev.

And always good to go with barely any experience in your bottom 3 D spots (no chance that fails!).

Ltir doesn't give teams extra capspace.

I'm aware of that, and I still can't figure it out. Frank Seravalli of TSN was talking about it like it could be an asset to "a team looking to manipulate the cap using LTIR".

Yes, which makes me sad that he's spreading incorrect info.

Leafs had to get fancy with Clarkson deal, but that was only to cover their ass if Marner held out into regular season. It was a one-off, now everyone assumes it's beneficial to teams.

As I understand it, if Team X has exactly $81.5M in cap commitments, including a $6M player who is an LTIR candidate, then if they put him on LTIR, they can spend $6M past the cap ($87.5M). Is this incorrect?

They can spend $6m past the cap, but that LTIR player can't be pulled off LTIR without moving out enough salary.

So if every penny of Dubinsky was on LTIR, CLB could have 81.5m in other salaries (including his exact same caphit replacement). So it's still the same group making up the $81.5 if Dubinsky us there or not.

Got it. So what's a scenario where a team would WANT a player from another team for the purpose of putting them on LTIR? Does such a scenario exist, other than reaching the cap floor?

A team can't use LTIR unless they are approaching the cap. Ottawa for example doesn't have any of their injured guys on LTIR, they are all on IR and inflating their cap.

A team that is already using LTIR for sure (Horton situation) can help another team out for a price and take another injured player on.

Using LTIR should be a worst case scenario, as the cap does not accumulate during the year. So if Clb uses it and wants to make a deadline deal, it hasn't to pretty well be dollar in for dollar out. So no chance of a decent rental for picks trade.

Sure the Leafs can sign PIetrangelo, but at what cost? Very weak at centre, and even on the wings.

Thanks for trying to educate the masses about LTIR. It's a CapFriendly rumour that will never die. "Leafs should acquire all LTIR players so it gives the Leafs more cap."

We have two Andreas Johnsson's. Their names are Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe. And Matt Roy is more valuable to us than Justin Holl would be. But we'll take Holl off your hands for a fourth-round pick.
