Description
BUF-NYI Trade (from: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1926580)
Really good trade for both teams. Sabres acquire a top-4 LHD. Isles acquire a young, cheap, bottom-6 player, a 4th round pick, and gain cap space.

COL-NYI Trade
Avalanche acquire an elite bottom-6 C and league-minimum, young LW. Isles gain picks, a fringe NHLer, and cap space.

ANA-NYI Trade (inspired by: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1910310)
Ducks acquire Boychuk's contract, a young RHD prospect, and a 3rd round pick. Isles acquire a young LW prospect and gain cap space.

VAN-NYI Trade
Canucks acquire a bottom-6 RW, a top-4 defensive RHD (perfect D partner for Hughes and replacement for Chris Tanev), a top RW prospect, and a 1st round pick. Isles acquire a young borderline elite goal scorer, and a 2nd/3rd pairing defenseman.

NSH-NYI Trade
Predators acquire a bottom-pairing LHD that belongs in the NHL, a fringe LW prospect, and a 4th round pick. Isles acquire a reserve RHD and gain cap space.

I’m not so sure it is. Wahlstrom was a 1st round pick and for good reason, he’s almost a lock for a Top 6 spot. The Canucks effectively get two 1sts, one of those is already halfway done developing and a bargain contract roster need. If you wouldn’t want to take Clutterbuck, fine, we take that deal off the table and LTIR Ladd instead of burying him. Boeser’s talented, but there’s gonna be more than one young top winger on the trade block with better value than Boeser. I’d see Gaudreau, Nylander And Laine trades as all very possible, so if Boeser’s on the market, expect to have him be treated like the consolation prize.

He's not on the market, but I'll entertain your train of thought. Gaudreau is 27 and has two seasons before he's a UFA. Laine will cost a lot more in terms of assets (ie. start with Dobson+++) and dollars than Boesser. Nylander is older, has lower average gpg and ppg. If you think any of the above are better value, go for it.

Clutterbuck adds dollars to cap that Vancouver can't afford. Why would Vancouver trade Boesser and add a salary dump?

Over their careers, Stetcher has slightly more TOI than Mayfield and he's about 2 years younger.

Finally, Wahlstrom is not a lock for the top six. Decent chance his skating prevents him from making an impact in the NHL. And we need to wait till 2021 draft to get a first. With Boesser, NYI should make the playoffs so the pick will be mid to late round. 2021 is also the draft is a real crap shoot given the challenges with scouting this year.

So why trade a core piece and a valuable RHD for that? Laughably bad for Vancouver

Very bad trade for Buffalo. We don't want 5.5 million in cap coming back unless you are taking cap back. Also no interest trading a defensively solid NHL ready forward

I agree Vancouver would decline the NYI trade, but boeser is a pretty poor skater and I would say he’s made a positive impact in the NHL. Wahlstrom needs to work on his defensive play (which he’s gotten better at playing in the AHL) but when he was up with the islanders his skating wasn’t a problem and he had the best expected goals % on the team through 5 games. Small sample size, but he’ll likely make the team out of camp next season.

Boesser's skating is not the best. He has become a much better complete player. His defense and play making have really improved. It has come at the expense of his shot. He's not shooting as much. I think he needs to do that.

May be wrong here, but I think Wahlstrom's ceiling is Boesser today.

Yeah boeser’s defensive zone coverage was awful during his rookie year, but he’s gotten better each season and he’s well above average now. I’m not sure if boeser is not taking wrist shots because of his injuries or if teams have figured him out so he decided to become a more complete player and add a playmaking/defensive element to his game.

Yeah that’s about right, playing for trotz will force wahlstrom to play like boeser in terms of play away from the puck and that blue collar mentality that boeser has developed since his rookie year, even with goal scoring. Boeser has scored more “dirty” goals over the last 2 seasons

I have a question. Let say a team jump on the opportunity to sign Barzal and offered him 10.5 mill+. Could the NYI match or do think Barzal wouldnt be interested?

Both. I doubt Barzal will sign an offer sheet. He absolutely hates Tavares for what he did. However, I can also see him not wanting a bridge deal and getting his money now. It's more likely than not that he does sign a bridge deal, I can't imagine Lou doesn't have this master plan to get what he wants.
