Well his advanced stats were actually pretty good this year, so we can say he just did not fit at all in Carolina.

There was the 11 game stretch where he had to drag Weber along with him and they were both pretty bad (Weber was worse), but for the other 44 games, while playing with Petry he was great IMO. He was our 2nd best defenseman in the regular season and it wasn’t close.

2nd best defender on this team isn't anything special in the regular season considering how terrible our back end was in the RS.

We can agree to disagree then. Besides the beginning of the season and the playoffs, I don't even think he should've been in the NHL, he was that bad.

Oh come on, I would easily take Joel Edmundson on the leafs bottom pairing, or on the jets second pairing if he was put on waivers. Easiest waiver claim ever. Of course he's an nhl player.

Him being a DFD and being top 10 in giveaways isn't a good combo. He couldn't make a simple pass in the defensive zone without giving it away. Maybe he was injured during that long span or something, but he wasn't very good.

It's even worse knowing that Petry was also top 20 in giveaways. He's an OFD trying to create chances so that's common for a player like him. But generally DFD's shouldn't have that many giveaways.

Despite this I do believe I'm not totally sold on him, this contract still has the potential to backfire horribly.

We’ve already made the cup finals because of having him, and it’s not that much money. If he immediately turned into Karl Alzner you could argue that the contract would still be worth it.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the contract but nothing way too special still I’d take that contract any day if the week for good defence
