I'm ignoring the quibbly side pieces to add to the trade, particularly the boeser trade, just keeping it simple there.

Taking a wild crack at what makes sense to me for where Guerin might be going next, acquiring a LW when we need a C means a LW will likely get traded to a team that really wants him and has a Center they can let go of. I figured the Islanders for parise. them having Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Barzal, I figured Nelson is most likely to move, maybe the wild take back a bad contract like Ladd and don't retain any salary.

well the way the islanders are now they won't be able to afford Barzal without moving players. I didn't think the wild would go after Lee, since teams don't like moving their captains especially with a NTC and they just got pageau, Nelson seemed right in the middle to me, especially if the wild are targeting mn born players

The deal was going to be parise + Koivu for Ladd and picks. Koivu wouldn't waive his NTC to they signed Pageau and gave the picks to ottawa. then there was nothing left on a Parise/Ladd deal.
