laugh laugh How is Florida getting their internal cap down taking on a $8 million Jacob Trouba? First all Florida needs LD help not RD they're set there Florida doesn't need another expensive contract. Fat chance of Lundqvist waiving for Minnesota. None of these deals are remotely realistic.

Trouba has a 2 mil salary next year. SB is already paid. The salary is all that matters for FLA.

They don’t understand how signing bonuses work with the cap.

Minnesota is probably one of the few place Lundqvist might waive for because Zuccarello is there. I'm just not sure the Wild give up one of their few right handed forwards for a rental goalie when there's plenty of other goalies available.

Yeah Minnesota is definitely a sensible destination for Hank given the Zucc relationship and the fact that he'd definitely start there.

The way I see it is that Minnesota probably thinks

1) Kaaponen is the long term goalie solution
2) They're trying to compete next year and don't want to do a rebuild

If that's the case, that probably means

1) They don't want Dubnyk playing for them since the more games he plays, the less probability the team has of making the playoffs
2) They don't want to sign one of the big name UFA goalies long term since that blocks Kaaponen.

So they need an option that they can both a) have short term b) is good enough to make 50 starts and give them a good chance of getting to the playoffs.

In terms of UFA goaltenders, I don't think there's really any options: Holtby, Crawford, Markstrom, Khudobin, Greiss are all going to want 3+ year deals. Underwhelming backups like Talbot and Smith are in the same boat as Dubnyk in that they'll probably take you out of playoff contention.

So realistically that leaves the trade market which for a short term deal means either Andersen or Lundqvist. Andersen probably costs too much for what Minnesota is looking for so Hank is the obvious choice, and all it costs really is a 4th liner and about 3 mil added to the cap. For a starting goaltender that's a small price to pay.

Ya and obviously you two havent looked at his contract to know that Florida still has to make several large signing bonus payments in the future. Once again they arent saving any money on his contract, it's still more expensive then anything going back to NYR.

The difference between Strome and Domi is more then a 2nd and MTL has absolutely no use for Strome so Bergevin doesnt even consider this offer

That’s not the point. The point was to cut salary for this year. Obviously if they wanna cut salary every year moving forward they’d have to do something else, but at that point they should force the owner to sell if they’re being cheap cause they’re not gonna get better if they’re not closer to the cap like the majority of teams. You gotta use that space either for your team currently or weapon is it for picks and prospects (like what Carolina did by taking Bickell’s contract and getting Teravainen).

Not sure it's worth engaging with someone who thinks 1 = "several"

It's already been reported that more team then ever are going forward with an internal cap and will be looking to shed salary so saying they should sell is basically asking half the league to sell. Plus Trouba has a NMC which kicks in this off season so literally makes no sense to bring him in if he is then trapped there

They have 1 more at 8 million and three 3 at 6 million, apparently 6 million isnt a big enough to qualify as a significant signing bonus to you? But ya think other people are stupid because you dont know the contract structure

Lundqvist wasn't much better than Stalock last year, so it's not an automatic that Lundqvist would start. You are correct that a rental on a 1 year deal would be smart IF they view Kahkonen as being the answer long term. Personally, I'd prefer Guerin reach out to Arizona and see if Raanta was available and what that might cost since Arizona may need to shed salary.

why would hank waive his no trade? even when hank is bought out why would he sign to a non contender? because his friend plays there? i seriously doubt that.
