Kuemper amp Savard

Description
Goalie trade 1 for 1 as I think this helps both teams out. Freddy is only paid $1mil this year compared to the $4.5mil kuemper is owned this year and next. So Arizona saves money, Toronto gets more term and a slightly lower cap hit. Goalies are similar. Can argue that kuemper has been better the past two seasons however Freddy has been a more proven starter for longer in his career.

Savard is the exact kind of guy to pair with Reilly and solve the D problems. Picks might get involved however as is Columbus gets a downgrade replacement in Holl and then some good young forwards in Mikheyev and Engvall. Bracco is a project prospect and Rodrigues was just thrown in as I don't think he stays with the leafs.

Lastly, get a little extra grit in the bottom 6 and cost certainty at $1.5mil over the next few years. Shouldn't cost much, probably a B prospect.

Get to keep Johnson as well who I think needs a good season under him. No reason to sell low on him. He's a 40-50 or guy. Let him rebound and then trade next year as we will need to make room for some other contracts.

Why wouldn't Arizona just keep the better goalie with the better contract. This trade makes zero sense. Arizona is having cap problems and doesn't need the extra million. Kuemper has been the better goalie over time, not Andersen.

Cap problems is the exact reason for the trade. If you read the description I mentioned real $$ Freddy only makes $1m next yr where as kuemper will get close to $10m over the next 2 years. Arizona can't afford that and at least gets a really good goalie for 1 year at an awesome price. Not the greatest hockey trade but a good business trade for a struggling team financially.

Holy overpay for Savard... but most of it is a lot of bleh.... the only players Columbus has any remote interest in are Holl (Savard replacement) and Mikheyev. The rest of it is just unneeded.

None of that is appealing to Columbus (save Mikheyev, conceivably). If Savard is traded, it'll be as part of a deal that brings back a top-6 forward, preferably a 2C. We're overstocked on D as is, so Holl's not necessary, and Rodrigues/Engvall/Bracco are all bottom-6 guys, of which we have like 10. Not a fit.

I was gonna say. Savard averaged 79 G between 16-17 and 18-19, and played 68 games this past season. He's as tough as they come.

HUH what, that is ridiculous, they can just trade Kuemper for whatever and Run Raanta and Hill for 5 million less.

Raanta/Hill is WAY worse than Andersen/Rantaa and it costs virtually the same (in real salary). Say what you will but it is not ridiculous to think Arizona will try to reduce their real expenses while not completely destroying their teams competitiveness.

Exactly, thats why this trade makes zero sense, Cap wise it would be Ranta/Hill for 5 million or Andersen/Ranta for 10 million. Not sure what the guy is smoking and how it saves cap space or money.

You clearly don't understand the ACTUAL SALARY implications of the contracts. I tried to explain but you still don't get it. Yes Cap hit is higher but that doesn't matter for Arz. They care about the actual $$ they will have to pay their players. If you look at Freddy's salary structure he gets paid $4mil singing bonus on the first day of free agency (which the leafs would pay) and then the trade would go down and Arz would only have to pay the remaining $1mil base salary.
Freddy has proven that he is a great goalie, top 20 at minimum. He had a subpar year but to say he is worse than Hill is ridiculous. Freddy has absolutely carried the leafs for years. Only reason leafs do this is for the extra year and to shake up things a little after a disappointing finish to the season. No way any GM would be doing Freddy for Hill.

For the Final time with you damn leafs fans a Kuemper trade is not for money its to gain assets thats why he's on the block in the first place is because he's one of the only Coyotes that is worth something , Coyotes have 26M tied into 7 players with expiring deals in one year that they can move off get some assets and save money before moving Kuemper to save 2.25M in 2020 and gain no assets and piss off whats left of the fan base

Or, and here me out on this because its a bit of a stretch. Arizona could trade Kuemper for futures. Then they still save the money and actually get value from the trade. Crazy idea though right? No way would they do that when they can help out the Leafs instead

LOL you clearly dont understand. Arizona is trying to sign Hall and they are already over the cap. THEY NEED TO MAKE CAP SPACE TO DO THAT. They will trade one of their goalies to make space for Hall. On top of that I never said anything about trading Hill for Andersen. You obviously are not reading anything that is written. This is a terrible trade and it will Absolutely never happen.

I can go over this again for you if you would like because clearly you dont understand.

Currently right now Arizona has 3 goalies under contract
- Kuemper (2 years remaining, owed 3.5M this year and 5.5M next)
- Raanta (1 year remaining, owed 2M)
- Hill (just signed an 800k 1-way extension today, meaning Arizona can't send him down to the AHL)

So why would they want another goalie? They are trying to get rid of one.
Furthermore, why would they trade a goalie for a rental they don't need? Especially when sources are saying they are being offered a 1st + for Kuemper?

Your logic is flawed because it fails to see the bigger picture, just because Andersen is only owed 1M in actual money that doesn't mean they want him.
