I wouldn't really say he can make anyone look good, look at everyone management already tried with him, McDavid wanted to make himself look good, now if we find a reasonable trade for someone good, wouldn't really matter if the guy is left or right handed shot, speed or size, just someone who fits best with him, someone who can take the the big bag of workload McDavid has on his shoulders

Pavel Buchnevich seems like a perfect fit to me. He's 6'3, 200 lbs, and has a physical presence where at the very least he won't get pushed around. He has the speed to play with McDavid and Draisaitl and Buchnevich is both a good scorer and passer. Defensively responsibile as well.

He's 25 years old and has one year left on his contract at a good cap hit of $3,250,000, after which he becomes an RFA. I believe EDM could aquire Buchnevich for a 2021 1st round pick or maybe two 2nd round picks in 2022 and 2023.

OK...so I think I understand what you are going for....let me throw a few names out of guys I see as, to use a soccer term, high 'work-rate' guys...and can hold onto puck, can play fast and can finish....who may take pressure off McDavid --

I think it would be the worst decision to play RNH away from Draisaitl. He covers for all his mistakes and dreadful defensive play. Until you can see Draisaitl play/learn that game, RNH needs to be there.

Yeah I like this, would be good next to McDavid. Another ranger (former) like Jesper Fast would be interesting in a pay-low scenario. He could take a better defensive role like he did on AP's line, since McDavid is not yet solid defensively. And he could chip in. I think Andreas Johnsson is another guy. He is not as good as Buchnevich, but he is signed for 3 more years and will probably cost less. If you want someone physical on his flank, I like Patrick Maroon, but I think a lot of teams like him, and Edmonton would have to overpay maybe.

Hoping the Rangers resign Fast. Would rather trade Buchnevich for draft picks to open up cap space for Fast, than lose Fast to free agency for nothing.

I think ehlers is a good target for EDM.

Ehlers might be too good of a target? Ehlers is a really good player that makes every one who plays with him better.

I am just going to list a few players from the Habs I can see being successful with McDavid and what they would bring.

Drouin - elite playmaker allows McDavid to consentrate on scoring. Has good speed but is not good defensively and sometimes seems very lazy.

Domi - High skilled playmaker with elite speed and energy. Tough as nails and has a decent shot if he utilized it more he would be more effective. Lacks a decent defensive game, often takes bad penalties at inopportune times and is very streaky.

Byron - this one is kind of an outside the box idea. Byron has elite speed and an unusually high shooting percentage. His high shooting percentage is because he simply is very selective in his shot usage. Ironically he just doesn't shoot often. He has only had 511 shots over his 449 games played for an average of 1.14 shots per game.

Super underrated player, he’s the best defensive forward in the jets top 6 and not a lot of people know that. Imo he’d cost a decent amount, but he’s literally the perfect player to play with mcdavid.

Ok, these are all great players that you all came up with, my two favorites are Buchnevich and Gallagher, what would it take to get them both? Samurokov, Safin and a second for Bushy and Chaisson, Kassian and a 3rd for Gallagher? Do those trades seem fair?

Agree completely, don't know though if EDM would be willing to pay the high cost to get Ehlers.

Not really...NYR needs a 2c, which is hard fit for EDM to fill. MTL needs wingers, so hard for them to deal Gallagher without winger coming back.

Maybe a three-way deal...

MTL sends Domi or Danault to NYR, Gallagher to EDM
NYR sends Buch to EDM, Kravstov to MTL
EDM sends Larsson to NYR, Benson and 2020 1st pick to MTL

That probably needs some work...but something along those lines.

Drouin is really interesting. If you could sign Fast to a deal, a Drouin-McDavid-Fast line looks good. Byron I like the player, just not the contract. The cost for Domi, and what he expects to get paid is a hard no. He is highly overrated. I think your point of high playmaking, speed and energy underlined with streaky play is a contradiction.

I think Edmonton would do a package around Nurse, but I think it would be bad for the Jets to do that. I don't think they will get fair value for Ehlers- I'm high on him. Honestly if I'm the Jets on try to cash in on Kyle Connor. He is a really good player, but I think some teams might over-value him. Might be able to grab a really good dman.

Honestly I wasn't either until he got here. I hated the trade at first.

Yeah I just think he thinks he is a 70 point player, whereas I think he is in 50s. I think with dropping the agent, he is going to try to break the bank.
