TOR
  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. Demers, Jason
Détails additionnels:
Yotes need cap space. Full stop. They require a LW that can play top 6 as it looks as though resigning Hall isn't going to happen. AJ can fit into a 2nd line role there easily, a slight upgrade on Crouse. The Yotes have a D to move, picking Demers as the cheaper option.
ARI
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Moving AJ to address to remake the 3rd line a little. Crouse adds more sandpaper, but is a slight offensive downgrade. Demers may garner a 2nd on the open market, but with a flooded D UFA market, that would be tough to get. The expiring deal help with expansion draft purposes, while providing a more priven option in the Leafs top 4.

Zona might need cap space, but doing that by moving one of their better contracts in Crouse shouldn't be their starting point. He's not a problem, not in the slightest.

Demeres sucks, and Johnsson is better than Crouse and this ends up making the leafs cap situation worse AND it costs them a second.
No thanks

Agreed. Move moving AJ for Demers seems like an overpay too. Given the construct of the proposed deal, Crouse is the guy.

Frankly I wouldn't move for Johnsson if I were ARI. He's simply not needed in their current situation.

Just move Demers for a pick or something like that.

Disagree. Demers is a one year stop gap who can still play 20 minutes a game. Crouse, if you read my thoughts, is sandpaper on the 3rd line, and a slight offensive downgrade to adress that issue.... and contract control.

I am of the school of not gutting this roster, but reworking the 3rd line to make it more an energy line.

That was a possibility in my thoughts. But that would require Zona retaining salary I think.

it's hard to be a stopgap when you cant stop anything and your apparent use is a defensive defender. Demeres cant do that any more. He is bad, very bad. And if this was Johnsson straight up for crouse you might have a point, but it's not. The leafs get a crappy defender on top of the downgrade, and as mentioned before, add a pick.
This would be a bad move for them

Demers advanced stats are not horrible at all.... especially for a team that couldn't really score

If you don't like him.... what's the solution then?

Prolly, but that'd at least save them some money.

what? his advanced stats are terrible. he had a 46.3% CF%, 46FF% and a -.06CF rel to his team and a -1.9% FF% comapred to his team all while rocking a 101PDO
He got absolutely clowned in shots and chances against

I like it but I would prefer Hjalmerson over Demers I realize he costs more but if we could add to get them to retain a bit I think it could be mutually beneficial. What say you?

Not opposed at all. The move is about getting an expiring contract at a resonable cost.

But...... can the Yotes retain salary? Really? 🤔🤔🤔

On a team that couldn't score, or really carry play all that effectively. This all has a negative affect on stats. I mean Ekman-Larsson's advanced stats look the same.... does he suck too?? Almost 55% of his starts were in the D zone as well...... factors.

Advanced stats only tell part of a story. Isn't the whole picture at all.

no, that's not how advanced stats work. the coyotes could have been the best offensive team in the league and he still would have looked brutal by those metrics. And OEL had a terrible year, so yeah, this year he sucked. The Difference is that Demers hasnt been good for a while and it's a trend

I'm not saying there wouldn't be a market for Hjalmarsson but given his age cap hit n term how much would they get for him? I'm not suggesting they retain because it benefits us we would have to add a pick or two but from there perspective they would be getting most of his money off of the books and would only have to retain for a year. Maybe I'm out to lunch but I hope we could get him as I think he'd be a great fit on our team. Am I way off base here? I ask seriously

It's debatable. His play has certainly declined over the last couple years. But..... I have a very different mindset over most when looking at this Leafs blueline.

1. They don't need a Dumba or a Manson or a Pesce really - not at the cost of one of the big 4. Holl and Dermott have looked good over the last 12 months. They do need someone that can slide into that mix.

2. The right side in Toronto will be a unit by comittee in every sense.

3. They need another Muzzin type guy - a shut down guy. (Granted Pesce fits the bill, but the cost in assets it makes no sense).

4. I beleive the defensive issues also lie in the 3rd and 4th lines ability to defend or drive play. The 4th line with Spezza at centre was absolutely dynamic against the Jackets - and managed to carry offensive play, but it also defended well. That 3rd line was a gong show.

Given my thoughts, Hjarmalsson could work provided other deficiencies are addressed. Otherwise, I think we need to look for someone else.
