A trade with Ottawa

Description
This trade is actually more simple than it looks. The Sens take on Dubi’s contract in exchange the Jackets receive Bobby Ryan. While he does come with a higher cap hit and signed for one more year than Dubi, he is a player who can still contribute which is something Jarmo will find appealing. The Jackets send Jenner to offset the cap hit but he also provides some leadership to a very young Sens team that sorely needs it.

Korpisalo gives the Sens a goaltender to build their blue line around. Korpi finally gets his chance to be the clear number one guy and given the cap situation in the league the Sens will be a perfect destination for as they will be able to pay him as a number one goaltender in the future. The Jackets in exchange for him get Tierney. The Jackets also exchange picks with Ottawa. The Jackets need more picks as their pipeline of prospects is pretty bare. The Jackets essentially are trading down to the Islanders pick and also acquiring the Sens 2nd round pick. Note: as a late addition the Jackets also receive a mid 3rd round pick and the Sens get a 5th.

I also didn’t add Anderson as I believe in this situation he would dealt for a package of picks and/or prospects.

Because when opening rosters are due the Dubi has to be accounted for against the cap. Then once submitted he then could go to LTIR.

I think offseason LTIR is also a thing. I don't know exactly how it works, but I just don't see his contract becoming a problem for them in any kind.

Now a lot of these moves all depend on the economic situation next season, whether fans will be in attendance or not.

I think the next year will be a big question mark regardless.

Biggest issue will be the fact that it might be just about impossible to cross US-Canadian borders without a quarantine - which obviously isn't possible in a fast pace schedule

It's definitely interesting. I don't think Ottawa really really gets a whole lot out of this though. They don't need to to worry about dumping Bobby Ryan at this point, as he's an important leader, and they're gonna be near the floor anyway.

If I was more sure of Korpisalo as a legitimate starter, I'd be interested in this, but I still look at him as more of a Backup/tandem guy. I don't think he's a guy who can play 50 games a year imo.

Props for creativity though.

Teams don't have to LTIR players in their 81.5m cap limit. Teams are not cap punished for having injured players. I doubt if Dubinski waives his NTC if there is any chance of him returning to play.

I feel like we make ourselves worse when there’s administrative mechanisms like papering down Texier and Foudy for the opening day roster.
