Don’t re-sign Girgenson fill him with Asplund or Lazar. No need to buy out Miller in my opinion.

I wouldn't give Ryan Nikolayev or a 2nd for Risto, and I wouldn't give McCann or a 2nd for Montour

Why would any one propose to buy out Miller? He is a solid RHD and I am sure contrubuted to the Sabres defense giving up only 136 5 on 5 goals.

To Chigurrhh and Dan10900
As a forward playing for teams that score goals in bunches, McCann has 98 points over the last 3 seasons while Montour playing defense has 85.
Montour had the best +/-, 5 on 5 SV% and second best PDO of all Sabre skaters.
Only Ristolainen had more TOI/gm than Montour (yup Dahlin ranked third)
Buffalo's defense gave up fewer 5 on 5 goals than all but 8 teams, all of them playoffs and none of them were Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh ranked 11th and had two time Stanley cup winner Murray and up and coming Jarry in net while Buffalo had a blind Hutton and young Ullmark.
Let me add only Marino had a better +/- and no one had a higher PDO or 5 on 5 SV% than Montour among ALL Penguin defensemen.
Montour is NOT bad, and he as a top 4 defenseman is more valuable than a third line center whose pts were inflated while getting twice as much PP ice time as Montour.

If you would like to provide YOUR facts to support your position why Montour is "bad" I would love to see them.
But I have given you very strong evidence that he is not "bad" and why he is more valuable than McCann.

I will not even discuss the merits of Ristolainen as I know you will dismiss what I say about Montour.
I can only say Ristolainen plays against the toughest competition, KP, PP, hits, most TOI/gm, scores pts and has been doing this for at least 4 different head coaches.
I can only presume they know more than you as they see him every day, you see him maybe 4 games a year.
He is better than Montour, and next year he will be even better.
That may not be enough for him as Chiarelli wanted him and was willing to give up Hall to get him.
Do you think that package will get Hall, most likely not.

This is my rant of the day.
Stay tuned tomorrow for my next one.

Check out his metrics for the last 3-4 seasons, he's pretty solid, he just had a bad season, and he's a legit top 4 defender.

But his metrics aren't solid?

Please don't cite plus minus like this and expect people to take it seriously.

When compared to other players on the same team it is significant.
When a player has the BEST +/- it is meaningful.
Even at that you ignored the other data that I gave to you.
I am sure you did not go to howVizHome=no#3" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://public.tableau.com/views/SKATR2019-2020/SKATR?:embed=y&:display_count=y&ConfusedhowVizHome=no#3
to verify that I am correct that he is much better than Staal and Boychuk.
You give me a "smug" answer which means nothing.
I give you facts, tables and websites.
+/- is meaningful when compared to team mates not from team to team.
Grow up and present real evidence to refute an argument.

Let me add.
The site that you and I posted gives higher grades when a player is on a good team.
Montour has been on poor teams while Staal and Boychuk are on playoff teams.
So there comparisons which are worse than Montour, he suffers even more as he plays for the Sabres not a play off team.

No, please stop with the plus minus nonsense. Again, it discredits the other points that you make.
