Maybe the Schneider/Eriksson swap makes sense for both teams from a financial and cap perspective, maybe Jersey would prefer to just bury and ride out Schneider's deal though.
If money matters to Baertschi he'd be crazy to go the mutual termination route, there's no chance he ever makes close to what he's making in this last year of his deal and becoming a UFA one year earlier isn't likely to help him rebuild his NHL career, whether he's a UFA this offseason or next he's getting a PTO and that's it. Idk, maybe he can make almost as much in the KHL but I doubt it.
With the cap being flat and Buffalo sounding like they're going to have an internal cap they'll have no interest in Sutter, don't think they'd want him anyway and with the Caps in go for it mode they won't want to overspend on a 4C when that cap could be better used elsewhere in the lineup, they'd just keep the cheaper Dowd.
Would the Leafs want a smallish puck moving RHD in Stecher? He fits the mold of what they're going for in Toronto but he needs a new deal, Leafs need more defensive dmen then offensive dmen and they don't have much cap space for him anyway.
Maybe the Canucks should just waive goodbye to Toffoli and Tanev, sign Stecher as you'd assume he'll be cheaper then Tanev and see if one of the young winger prospects is ready for a job? I think they'd be wise to use Virtanen as a sweetener to get someone to take Roussel or Beagle, Gonna be interesting to see how Vancouver deals with their cap issues over the next couple years.
