MTL might have covered half the cost of those two ducks players with this return? Then you fleece the oilers...

Not good... not good at all. Too high of value placed on the MTL players.

The EDM deal is hit or miss on here, could be Nurse instead which in general has been more widely accepted. but it's not really the focus of this thread.

Would love to hear your take on why Rakell and Comtois are worth twice as much as Domi and Mete...

Sure, but Habs have tried the "all Finn" line, and it doesn't work out long term. Armia and KK aren't a good fit together as both prefer to hold on to the puck. Would much prefer Byron with KK over Armia. Can always bump Lehky up, but want to give Comtois a shot with a legit Center.

Drouin has reached nowhere close to his potential. Nurse and Klefbom are lock top 4 defensemen anywhere. Drouin is an overpaid 3rd liner. He could get Larsson at best. Also doesn't make sense for the Oilers, who have need for defense just as much as depth scoring. They aren't going to weaken their defense core for a chance asset.

Rakell hasn't quite reached the level he was supposed to, but he still carries a very desirable cap hit for two more years. Given the overpayments for guys like Kapanen, Goodrow and Coleman, we see that low cap hit skill forwards sell VERY high. Comtois is also projected to be a top 6 forward and is a higher end Ducks wing prospect.

I'd say Comtois is an approximate 1 for 1 for Domi.
Rakell is certainly no 1 for 1 for Mete.

To compare, one of the most agreed upon Rakell trade is to Colorado, with the return being Timmins and a first.

Timmins overall is projected to be a better defenseman than Mete, is younger now, and is on the side that the ducks need. They have too many left hand defensemen and not enough right shots. So Timmins >> Mete.

I personally equate Domi's value as an RFA to a pair of 2nds. We have no clue what his contract is. if MTL signs him at a bargain, it might jump a bit. But as such, two 2nds is not worth a first.

And you are also demanding Comtois here... You've barely covered the price of Rakell alone.

If you think Habs fans overvalue their players, you've gone the complete other end of the spectrum. The 2 claims above are simply ridiculous.

Domi and Rakell are about as close in value as it gets. If anything there's a very very slight edge to Domi. Career Rakell 283pts in 447games, Domi 251pts in 375games. Rakell's contract is great for two more years, yes, but then he's a UFA approaching 30. Domi is younger and still under team control for at least 2 more years. Domi has the option of actually playing Center. Rakell is more known for being a scoring winger, yet Domi has scored more goals than him for the past 2 seasons....

Drouin being an overpaid 3rd liner lmao.....I don't even know where to begin...

I thought we could've had a reasonable debate / discussion...nvm

He will trash each Habs players on every post if needed
It’s useless talking to him, he has a negative IQ

Why would Anaheim have any interest in Mete? He's a LD that they have a overabundance of. They need RD help not LD and if i'm Murray i easily turn that deal down.

Rakell for Domi is close than fair... might need a 2nd to balance this out from MTL to Ana... more for is contract value... pts for pts are very similare.
Comtois for Mete... is close as well but Ana doesn't need a LD and they have a good propect pool at that position.
I would give another HIGH prospect like Brook for Comtois who is slot as a 3LW ceiling.
Domi- Brook- 2nd for Raky, Comtois.

IN regards of Edm: Value wise Klefbom is way higher... insert Mete in the trade and take Chiasson (cap-dump) to even this out...
Klefbom, Chiasson for Drouin, Mete would be more fair... but I think they could trade NUrse first

There are so many wrong things with this argument...Let's start here. Reasonably speaking, Domi won't sign below $4.5M AAV, no matter with whom. Either with Mtl or an Offer Sheet. Now go into your offer sheet calculator tool and look at what that AAV fetches in compensation. 2 second rounders? The guy had 28 goals and 72 points last season.
Domi is = Rackell more or less. Taking into account age/position/contract, I don't see how you think that's not the case. You're just being stubborn like most other people on here.
Calling Drouin a 3rd liner is just nonsensical. No, the oilers wouldn't take this trade but stupidity doesn't help get your point across.

If you have Lehkonen and Armia on line 4, you are better served dealing them to get something in return like adding Armia to the Oilers trade, and adding Kris Russell coming in. That makes it a more fair trade.
