Arvidsson had a 31 goal, 61 point season the year before he signed a 6 year, $4.25m contract.

Mangiapane had a 17 goal, 32 point season last year and now he gets a 6 year, $4.5m contract?

I get the idea of wanting to lock him up long-term, but I still think that this is an overpay for him -- he just hasn't done enough yet.

Markstrom will probably ask and get much more.

I like the idea a lot. But these contracts are insane and not anywhere close to reality. Markstrom is getting nothing less than 6 million, Mangiapane is getting nothing more than 3 million.

I really disagree with spending the little bit of flexibility we have on a goalie. Our goaltending, aside from one game, was outstanding in the playoffs. Our skaters need the upgrading.

Columbus passes. Not nearly enough for Anderson. Bidding starts at a 2nd-rounder, which is how much he's likely to cost on an offer sheet, and given the league-wide interest, it's probably a higher price than that.

You want to pay Mangiapane what?! Bennett signed for 1.95 with better numbers coming out of his ELC and you want to pay 4.5?! That is awful.

He has been the Flames leader in advanced metrics two year in a row. He was also on an ~30goal/82game pace once Frolik was traded and he was boosted to top-6. People gawked at the Lindholm deal and that has turned into one of the best contracts in the league. I can see Mang performing at the same level next year along two highly talented players.



I don't disagree but it's not out of the realm of possibility. He gets stability for quite a few years and a good team in front of him over the length of his contract.



Deal, if it's a second straight up. Anything more is an overpay for a guy with injury history and one good year. And I love Anderson - I've been following him for years.



See above for Mang - I believe it will pay off in the next year or two just like Lindholm and Andersson. Overpay for a year to get 5 years at a great deal.

As for goaltending, Talbot was sensational but crumbled when it mattered which seems to be backed by his history. BSD appears to be a front half guy and falls off in the second half of the season due to injury or complacency, or both (2 years in a row now). Sign a good goaltender for a while now to mind the crease and guide Wolf/Parsons/whoever once they're ready.

Ater Frolik was traded this past season, he only played ~20 games. He played better in an expanded role, but that is an extremely small sample size to justify that contract.

Mangiapane has great advanced stats and in a vacuum that is wonderful but so do a lot of guys that don't deserve to get paid 4+ million dollars. To compare him to Lindholm is out to lunch, Mang was on pace for 38 points this year for the first time, prior to the Lindholm signing, which I don't think anyone gawked at, was a great signing from the start, the sample size is 374 GP, at a half point per game, Mangiapane is .36/game which is worse than Bennett coming off of his ELC.

122 - 25 - 20, you would pay 4.5 for this stat line
159 - 31 - 32, Bennett coming off his ELC and got paid 1.95

Treliving signing Mangiapane to 4.5 after playing 122 games would be putting a nail in his own coffin.

Frolik was traded 38 games into the season so there was ~35-40 games before covid hit. It is a small sample size but he's stepped up at every aspect of his career thus far including playoffs. Like I said - you pay a premium now to get a better deal later.



I'm not sure how you can say in a vaccuum in this scenario. It's not a player that is struggling to produce but putting up good metrics, or a player with good points and bad metric. He's excelling at both which is a good sign.

He was on pace for 38 points IF you include the start when he was playing bottom-6 and often fourth line. You can't compare Bennett trajectory when Bennett was playing with Mikael Backlund while Mang was playing with Hathaway and Ryan last year and jumped up significantly once Frolik was traded...

Lindy had 45 + 44 pts back-to-back years (playing with Aho I might add) when the trade was made. He found his groove and skyrocketed. I will guarantee you Mang puts up at least 20g/60pts per 82 game pace if playing in the top-6. Fans will be begging for this contract at that point.

If you're counting playoff games, sure. He did fine in the playoffs too. I understand your reasoning of paying more now to get a better deal later, but I just think you can get him for cheaper on a deal like this. But if you're cool with it, then that's all that matters! Hopefully he turns into a solid top 6 player for CGY!

In a vacuum as in advanced stats are great for cherry picking arguments but don't paint an entire picture. Rocco Grimaldi (worse than Mangiapane), Oskar Lindblom (better than Mangiapane) should be your extension comparisons not Lindholm

I'm not sure I agree on those comparables but it is what it is. I'd be stoked to get Mang cheaper and put the money towards a more realistic contract for Markstrom!
