16th overall pick for Dylan Holloway.

Edit: Not RW, but we already have Armia, Caufield, Ylönen, & Gallagher.

We don’t need anyone short term. We aren’t winning anything this season, and we don’t have cap space to get anyone for next season. We might not even have enough cap space to keep the big, goal-scoring RW we already have.

Are u talking about Armia? He's bottom 6 lol
On a side note, I should say I hate that losing mentality, Bergevin really did succeed to lower fans' expectations...

Wait, which "big" scoring RW. Because Gallagher isn't big, and Armia isn't a scorer. Is Ylonen Nhl ready yet? He had a worse season in 19-20 than he did in 18-19. He's hardly a guy who can play top6 in NHL.
We need a RW for top6 next season. Ppersonally I'd go after Toffoli or Dadonov. Neither are "Big" but they are still big"ger" than the avg Hab I think.

Nah. I’d rather get the 2nd. There are three or four players I would dump from the Canucks before I dump roussell.

Maybe Baertschi or Sutter would lower the price

Sign Craig Smith 3-4 years @ $4.5M

Everybody talks about Toffoli, Dandonov and Hoffman. But NO love for Smith. I guess that what you get to have such a generic name.

Upsides:
Veteran 30yo, Nearly 7 times 20 goal scorer. Good size. Affordable. Doesn't cost any return. IMO the perfect fit.

Downside:
Bad playoff stats.

Roussel?!?! To play top 6 on RW? Sure, in the AHL perhaps. He's worth a 7th rd pick with his bad year and bad contract.

Smith's production isn't as good as Toffoli or Dadonov. Toffoli is a far better playoff producer. And yea, Smith's plyoff production the last few years is pretty bad, I guess it lines up with the rest of the Pred's production.

Plan A : Sign Smith
Plan B : Mantha trade, but a serious one (ex. : Domi + Caufield + 1st). Detroit could/should still refuse.
Plan C: Anderson for a top 50 pick
Plan D: Virtanen + capdump trade a la Armia
Plan E: Chiasson! (50% joke, 50% serious)

I dont see anything else.

Ylönen will be NHL ready in 21-22. And we can’t afford to sign UFAs for after this year.

Also both Dadonov and Toffoli are shorter than the average height of players that played in the playoffs for Montreal this year.

I think Bailey with the ISL would be a cheap one to get @ 5M per years with many season of 60pts... can't see why this is bad

I would love plan B.
Trading Caufield hurts but Mantha is what we hope Caufield would become so why take the risk Caufield doesn't meet the expections. Mantha also has size so Domi, Caufield and a pick is a no brainer for me.

Really? Huh. Watching the Habs play I feel like they're 5'11 or 5'10 out there. I guess I have to shed that pessimism.

Everybody loves/wants Mantha, even Detroit.

I just don't see how trading Mantha for anything else than a better player could be justified to the Detroit fan base. You can't alienate a suffering fan base like that. Just a bad business decision. Like Buffalo trading Eichel or Ottawa trading Tkachuk.

Bergy can try, but MTL fans shouldnt get their hopes up.

Well the defense is boosting the average.

Also, tall =/= physical.

The need for physical wingers is real for a long playoff run.

Tatar, Leki, Drouin and Byron bring you TO the playoffs, not THROUGH it, like Bergy said.

I very much disagree about Lehkonen & Byron. They were/are considerably better players in the playoffs than they were in the regular season. While they aren’t necessarily physical, they’re both sturdy and play good 2-way games. Neither showed signs of slowing down in the playoffs, and Byron got better (although that has more to do with him going through a slump in the regular season). While Lehkonen doesn’t have the finish, he’s never had it at the NHL level, and he’s been effective in all 3 of the playoff series he’s played.

Drouin and Tatar are harder to argue, since the main part of their games are offense, and if they don’t produce offense they don’t contribute much. And offense is harder to come by in the playoffs because of the tighter checking style, and the fact that you’re trying to focus on shutting down one singular opponent.

Drouin has 21 points in his last 27 playoff games. Suzuki seems to be a playoff performer.
If you look at their stats, Habs vets like Gallagher and Danault and Tatar perform worse (career points per game %) in playoffs than reg season.

Everybody is suppose raise their game level and contribute in the playoffs. It's not only to the top 6 to score. Lekh and Byron are still 15 goals players in regular season. In never said they were slowing down in the playoff, they just cant compete with the same level of succes simply because they are not strong enough to win board battles and space in front of the net.
