Description

Rangers get $6m off their books and turn that into useful assets. They can slot Z on their 3rd pair and Jost on the bottom 6. In return, the Avs weaponize the one last year of cap space and "buy" some assets (looking at the Marleau trade) inc a prospect that NYR wont/cant sign and a low 1st, 3rd & 7th all while moving two players that might not have a spot on the team moving forward.

Next - Reinhart would look really nice next to Kardi and fill a top 6 gap on the RW that was missing. Buffalo gets a mid-6 RW, mid pair D man, a first and a prospect. On the verge of an overpayment, but Colo might have a little buyers remorse on Donskoi and would be selling high on Graves (Did you know he is the NHL +/- leader...).

Fast and DeMello can either be the 21/22nd player...or fill some time while the kids (Bowers, O'Connor, Bowers) season in the AHL.

Finally, this still allows the Avs to have $26M in cap space the following year to sign:
Maker 9m/8yrs
Landeskog 6.75M/6yrs
Timmons 1.5m/2yrs (show me contract)
8M+ to fill gaps in youth or FAs (6th D man for Cole / bottom 6 for Calvert/PEB)
