a realistic Blues offseason

Description
Biggest thing on capfriendly.
-Blues need to sign Pietrangelo
-Blues need cap space, so let's make every other team benefit because we don't think STL has space.
-Blues will re-sign Dunn to a bridge deal especially when Dunn has arbitration rights, and I'm sure he's gonna use it.
-Colton Parayko is one of the Top Defenseman on the Blues and in the League. Blues are contending. Blues don't want a bunch of spare parts that we won't use in a Cup push.

Spare Parts meaning guys like Hainsey, at some trades Dermott, I don't see a problem with Johnsson, but at the end of the day it's not worth it for the Blues.

We'll just leave it at that.

  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2020 (BUF)
Détails additionnels:
Buffalo needs a 2C, while Bozak is not an amazing 2C and probably on the decline, still a serviceable stop gap for the next year until Cozens is ready to take the role.
BUF
  1. Bozak, Tyler
Détails additionnels:
Blues need some cap relief, and while Bozak could probably fetch a 3rd, I'm not sure anyone would be willing to go up to that value, and in order to get the deal done Blues need to make some compromises to make it work.
2.
STL
  1. Choix de 4e ronde en 2020 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
While I'm not sure New Jersey is a right fit, Blues definitely need to make cap work, and I'm pretty sure that under the circumstances, Sanford is very tradable. I think he could be for quite a few teams, and honestly a 4th Round Pick is pretty decent. He's had good numbers, but I can't help but think that him on a line with O'Reilly had something to do with that. So him being traded Sanford is not the most consistent of players, but he's definitely not a bottom feeder.
NJD
  1. Sanford, Zachary
Détails additionnels:
Blues at this point still need a couple million to salvage and the best way to do that is what I think is using Kyrou, and Kostin as forward support. It's time for them to move up the lineup, and I think Sanford is one of the guys who's the odd man out.
3.
STL
  1. Choix de 5e ronde en 2020 (DET)
Détails additionnels:
Under conditions that Detroit buys him out and telling Steen they will sign him again once bought out. I don't think Steen would be upset at waiving it, and this could be done with any number of teams done. I'm not gonna get worried with the pick that Detroit sends back at this point all that matters is he is sent and re-signed to the team.

I'd accept this as Detroit but I'm pretty sure there's a rule against trading away a player for the other team to buyout so you can resign them

I’d do this from Detroit, I think we’ve discussed something even more beneficial to STL in this.

DET - Steen (buyout), 2020 1st
STL - VGK 2021 3rd

Technically, it would have to be like the Orpik situation where there isn’t a deal in place for him to return to STL.

No, rules are against you signing a player after buying him out. there isn't any issue with trading him to other team to buy him out then sign him again.

Ok I wasn't sure. I just know that I've been yelled at in other ACGM's for proposing a similar situation

I believe there wasn't a plan for him to come back in that deal which was why it was allowed

You have created a roster where we just don't have to move Steen, but you still give up our first and bring him back...

You have $2.83m in cap space after you're finished, with 24 players. Don't sign Steen again and we're at $4.33m. Take Foley off the roster because his career is over and were at about $5.26m with 22 players (including Tarasenko).

Why are we using our first to get rid of the $5.75m Steen cap hit instead of just finding another half million in space? Like moving Gunnarsson and replacing him on the roster with Mikkola?

100% ok with these moves, might even look into a veteran backup with that cap space, depending on the org's faith in Husso. Could probably get a little more for Sanford, or just keep him if it means Mac^2 is in the top9. Might get a better pick back if we send #26 with Steen, but that's small potatoes tbh.

Well the big question is Hofer or Husso. I like Hofer, but I feel Husso is more ready than Hofer at the moment.

Yeah I think Hofer is at least a year away, and Husso is at that point where you gotta give him a shot. Competitive team though, so he'll have a short leash. Realistically, we'll probably be right at the cap ceiling and be adding a minor league veteran like a Louie Domingue or Anton Forsberg to be 3rd string/first call-up. Next year will be v interesting with UFA Binner, a full look at Husso in the show, and Hofer looking for a spot.

Alright, here me out:

Step 1: The Rangers buyout the King.

Step 2: The Blues, previously noted for signing another elite goalie at the end of his career who should have never played for another franchise, sign Lundqvist to a one year, one million dollar deal to compete with Husso in camp. He wins the backup job.

Step 3: We re-sign Pietrangelo, Tarasenko comes back good as new, and Lundqvist thrives behind a better defense, allowing them to tandem well. A well rested Binnginton has a nice rebound year, does well in the playoffs and we win another cup, checking the last box off of Lundqvist's career to-do-list.

Step 4: Profit

From what I have heard. Rangers are keeping Lundqvist and making Georgiev the odd man out.

I've heard the opposite. The Athletic had an article yesterday which said this:

"But where will Lundqvist be in October? Or November?

It won’t be at Madison Square Garden, unless there’s a press conference there to announce his retirement. He won’t be there to play on opening night, whenever that occurs, unless he’s there in a visitor’s uniform.

All signs point to The King being done as a Ranger, as unfortunate as that sounds. The reality of the situation supersedes sentimentality. And allowing players to retire in their uniform, while a nice, romantic idea, is generally bad business.

.....

There remains a slim chance another club makes a huge offer for Alexandar Georgiev and the Rangers decide to keep Lundqvist on the books (and deal other contracts to get under the cap), thus avoiding the dead cap space ($5.5 million this season, $1.5 million in ’21-22) the buyout would bring. Slim, slim, slim.

....

Another source, with some knowledge of Lundqvist’s thinking, said he knows that the goaltender is done with the Rangers."

I don't actually think the Blues should sign him or anything, but yeah I think he's done with NYR

I’d hope Sanford can get a lot more than a 4th. He was on pace for 20g this year and is only making 1.5 next season.
