Danault is totally worth a middle 6 roster player + 1st (in this case Mitchell) and a 2nd.

Danault is 5 years younger than Toews but it gives you time to groom Dach into a 1 Center. You have Toews-Danault-Dach as your top centers and you can either move Strome to Wing or trade him for an upgrade in another area. In 5 years Toews will be retired and you will still have Dach and Danault as your top 2 Centers with Danault still having 5ish years so it extends your cup window by 10 years. Simplle math my friend.

As a Pens fan I'd rather keep Letang and his higher cap hit than have to trade away our only bluechip prospect left in the system. It isn't worth the cap savings.

Look at what was given up by Vegas in exchange for Mark Stone WITH an extension... and answer me why you believe Danault is worth significantly more than that without one.

That's fair, I wasn't sure what the reaction to losing both Letang and Poulin would be. Especially with the only real gain being cap space lol.

There are no conditional picks for resigning players therefore you have to evaluate players based on actual value not as rentals.

Because Danault is a way better 2 way player than Stone and Plays a more important position than Stone and is 6 Mil less than Stone and Stone WAS a rental Ottawa signed him to a 1 year 7.35 Mil deal in 2018 and traded him at the 18-19 deadline to Vegas as a RENTAL. Vegas signed the Extension after the trade. Much like what Danault would likely do,

And for basically for just 1 season. He will get 8mill after next season if he hits the open market.

Stone was traded without an extension! Vegas didn't sign an extension with Stone until March 8th 2019 which was 2 weeks after the trade which happened on February 25th 2019. So Yes Danault as a top 10 2 way center in the NHL easily gets the above package without an extension. Stone is a winger Danault is a Center positionally alone Danault is worth more than Stone!

Stone + Lindberg for Lindberg + Brannstrom + 2020 2nd

Danault for Mitchell + Nylander + 2nd

Danault > Stone
therefore
O Lindberg < Nylander
Brannstrom= Mitchell

Chicago was rumored to have been offered a 1st and a top prospect this deadline for Saad but turned it down. So if Danault is "totally worth a middle 6 roster player + 1st (in this case Mitchell) and a 2nd." and Saad is worth a 1st and a top prospect the trade should be Saad (1st and 2nd) + Nylander (middle six player) for Danault basically (Based on the value of Saad and what you think Danault gets). If the trade is Saad + Nylander the Habs have no reason to do it IMO but that is what a fair trade is based on this "simple math" that you like to use my friend. Also, no chance you will get Mitchell. Untouchable.

You can argue all you want that Danault is better than Stone by the analytics and position but hockey is more than just those numbers. People who use analytics think their opinion is better just because they have the numbers. Hockey is so much more than that and the eye test is still 100% valuable. I will take Stone over Danault 8 times outta 10.

Edit: Also how are you going to link an article that only shows Danault's stats. Stone had more takeaways, less giveaways, more blocks and more points.
