Its a bits a high risk as well, bc it could be another year of not solving the avs most uncertain position, I think it just adds more uncertainty and you are banking on the hopes that either Grubauer stays healthy, or Georgiev reaches that level of starter potential.

I really think Sakic is going to try to minimize the risk at the position and avoid a Georgiev. He would be fine if they moved both Frankie and Grubi and you h ave Georgiev as the 1B ...but I cant see them doing a double overhaul of the goalie tandem .

Just adding Georgiev type goalie isnt enough to give you that confidence in net

I'm not sure what the other options are. Murray has question marks and may cost more than Sakic is willing to pay, Markstrom and Lehner may not even hit the market, etc. A low cost high reward (and high floor) guy behind Gru might be the best option.

Ability wise I think they have a goalie that is good enough to win with. They need to be patient and jsut see how the market unfolds.
I wouldnt trust murray, he has a scarier injury history that Grubauer and would cost double his cap hit.

One thing that I wonder about is Tuukka Rask, if Avs want a short term clear upgrade, Older but still a top goalie. Him and Boston always seems to have a dicey relationship. Plus they might want that cap space to keep Krug.

If Tuukka had enough of boston, I would keep my eye on that as a stop gap for the next couple years while they wait for Annunen. And no better way for Finlands top young goalie to learn under as a back up in a year than Tuukaa. This idea has kind of grown on me over time

Probably more favorable to OS in terms of compensation but trade could work. And yes age would be the main reason to go after him. That and health.

An OS would cost a 2nd in compensation, which isn't really that far off his trade price.

OS'ing him also doesn't guarantee that we'd get him either, as NYR could simply match it, in which case all we would have done is burn a bridge.

Might as well just trade for him rather than pissing of an otherwise good relationship with a good trade partner.

Yeah, that was Friedman and some other guy saying that on their podcast, when Adams was questioned he said he will qualify Montour. Even if it wasn't his trade you can't give up a first and a prospect and then let Montour walk for zilch.

It’s gonna take Timmins + Newhook + 2020 first to get the Ducks to even talk about Gibson

As Jamiepo said below, goalies don't carry as much value as people think. I doubt you'd get BOTH Timmins and Newhook in the same deal. Probably more like Newhook + 1st + Donskoi + Werner/Francouz/prospect.

I think the leafs could agree to that. I think the ducks deal is pretty close. Maybe Just add Werner. I know you will here a ton of backlash from people here but goalies simply don’t carry that much value. Yes Gibson is young, great and on a good contract. But by the times the ducks are truly ready to contend he will be in his 30’s. Maybe by then they can trade back for him lol.

I wouldn’t mind Jost either probably more added.
But Montour maybe a 2nd and 5th? He’s good in transition but is suffering in Kruegers system. He probably wants 4 million.

Thanks for clarifying the value and asking price.

At $4m it's too much for Colorado.

Jost isn't gonna work for him tho. Maybe Compher or a Jost/Zadorov pair maybe with a minor sweetener with Montour.

Jost + Zadorov is probably too high. Unless the add you're sending back is the BUF 2020 2nd or Matthias Samuelson.

That really only applies if the Ducks are looking to trade Gibson, which they are not and have no reason to

You are either overvaluing those pieces or severely undervaluing the 2nd and Samuelsson. He's not getting dealt.

Probably true. I don't think Colorado's 2021 2nd does it though. LA or Ottawa's2 2020 2nd would but not a late 2nd next year. Maybe Frank for George and Smith or something like that works though. Avs have space next year and Rags have a rough year in front of them with the buyouts. Some type of salary dump could work.

No thanks on Grubauer. He is injury prone and I'm not even convinced he's a starter in this league. Can you imagine the nightmare it would be with an injured Grubauer on the Leafs? Oh wait... Leafs went through this with Andersen.

How far off do you think this offer is?

1st (#24) + 2nd + A-/B+ RHD prospect + B/C prospect*

(*Note: Mutala was ranked in the 1st round halfway through his draft year, but fell due to personal issues relating to his parents. He's since had a great season and is worth far more than where he was drafted).

Keep in mind that Gibson's stats this season were worse than Grubauer which is a minor factor, though i think it's fair to give Anaheim/Gibson the benefit of the doubt as their team sucked this year.

Gibson's on a terrible team, and is a top 5 goaltender in this league. It's going to start with Newhook and a 1st or Byram and a couple 2nds.

You can probably consider Montour for Zadorov pretty much a wash with Z maybe being more affordable so maybe a bit more valuable.

I'd do any of the following:

Montour & 5th for Zadorov
Montour & 2nd for Zadorov, Jost, & 5th (It's a fairly high 2nd)
Montour for Jost & 5th (Buffalo needs a sweetener here maybe but not much of one)

Exchange Jost for Compher in any of these and up the return coming back from Buffalo a bit. He probably fits what they need a bit better than Jost.

We're not taking on a huge capdump for a sideways move at the backup position in net.

It's what they did for Grubauer and the only reason they got Gru over other teams. If you don't think Georgiev has the upside then you don't do it. If you think he does then it's an option.

I like picking up decent players with injury troubles. Leafs put a lot of money into their sports medical science. It has helped a few players recover their careers. Like ennis.

Grubauer would make a very good 1a.
