Wow. A leafs team taking players back. Gotta say that’s a step in a more realistic direction than every other leafs air chair

Terrible to see the Leafs putting teams over the salary cap moves are still a thing. So gross.

$78.34 invested in 16 players after this move, with only 3 NHL defencemen signed. That seems like a lot of fun.

Not sure how that relates to the Pesce overvaluation but cool story.

Just saying that for every time one side whines, there's usually a good case for the other side to also roll their eyes. Thank you for reading my cool story.

Pesce is one of the better defensive defenceman in the league and that is what Toronto needs plus he's not the only piece of the trade. If the leafs try and run with Holl, Lehtonen, Dermott & Liljegren down the right side it will be another first round exit.

I did the reverse and once you trade a Goalie (I used Reimer) they have $76,43 invested in 17 players. It is tight but workable.

But look at it long term-Suddenly, if you're the Canes, in 2021 you're paying $35.49 mil to 5 forwards. That's before you factor in what will likely be an expensive raise for Svech. So, say you bridge him for 3 x $7. You've got 6 forwards at $42.5. On D, you've got $14.6 in 3 guys (Skjei, Slavin and Gardiner). So, $57.1 for 9 players total. Do you re-sign Hamilton? You probably should since Lilly is your only reasonably decent RD left. Add $9ish mil. $66.1. So, 10 guys, zero goalies, with $15.4 mil in space, and zero goalie signed.

Tight? Yes. Workable? Not if you want to be successful.

Sure. But in the case of Pesce, he is worth less than half what people on this site think he is worth. He's easily the most overrated player on this site.

Why? Holl and Dermott working on the right side didn't hurt the leafs this year. Their defence actually played well. Columbus had a hot goalie. Dermott is going to get better. Liljegren will eventually make the jump and Lehtonen was the best defenceman not in the NHL. All of them could be decent
