Description
Alzner on LTIR because we need to get rid of his contract either through trade, buyout or termination. I figure it will be a trade but not sure what it would cost or who would even consider taking him.

Right to negotiate with Hall. I know it is a long shot to sign Hall but at least you have a meeting or 2 before other teams have a chance to talk to him.

Assuming CAR would accept a deal like this, you probably would need to take a salary out of CAR. Perhaps Niederreiter or Gardiner.

It's 3 years at less money gives him a chance to earn a larger contract while still in his late prime when the league should be starting to recover from covid. Yeah I can see him signing a short term deal especially with a NMC added to it

I said Alzner's contract was likely to be traded in this scenario just wasn't sure where to send him as pretty much everyone says they don't want to take him for less than a 1st and I think that is an overpayment for 1 year at 4 Mil especially in the off season but it might be just what it takes.

When I said sign and trade it is actually the other team being allowed to negotiate an extension as a condition of the trade. Which actually happens a lot.

No these sign and trades rarely happen....especially one year away from UFA. Certainly the Canes don't do it, as they have their own RFAs and maybe UFAs to sign.
So let me get this straight. Habs management tells Tatar...their best winger. "We want your ass off our team, so hurry up and sign an extension, so we can trade you Carolina. By the way if you don't sign an extension you are welcome back to the Canadiens family." Yeah, I want to be in this discussion.

Your confused, I said Tatar is being traded to Carolina but as a condition of the trade Carolina is given the right to discuss an extension with Tatar if Tatar doesn't want to extend then it would be Tatar for Bean and the 3rd Cause he would then only be a rental. In this scenario though Tatar has came to an agreement with the Canes and the deal goes through.

Sorry missed your post. Gardiner wont waive for Montreal so that option is out. Carolina won't need to move out salary they have like 5 Mil in space after Hamilton is taken off LTIR and the only have Foegle and Fleury as major pieces to sign who both will only take about 1 Mil each if that. That have many trade options they can do as well to make the roster work with Tatar. If we have to take back salary though the deal has to improve as well for the Habs. So something like Tatar + 2nd for Bean 2 1sts and Niederreiter.

IMO this is not an attractive trade for Carolina. I would say Skjei,2nd,4th for Tatar and 6th

Tatar is a decent second line winger but it would be crazy for Carolina to give away their best prospect and 13OA for him.

Nino is if he is part of this deal cause he is an overpaid 3rd liner and the reason for including him in this deal would be for cap space therefore "cap dump" but your right he isn't technically a cap dump as he does have value just not to Montreal with the other trades and signings. So the package would be the original proposed package with Nino added to make the money work. The better option for Carolina would be to trade Nino in a separate deal to get a an additional pick or prospect.
