Can they?

The 2nd pairing will handle the defensive assignments while the first is for offense. The defense is still a little small but not too small anymore imo.

I think the idea of playing on a contender with the likes of laine and ehlers for 5 years is too good to pass up. Also Winnipeg is much much better at attracting free agents now that the city is better and they are a contenders. Anyways, it’s more money that Tampa can offer. I think he at least considers it. He stays on a contender, gets to play with better talent, and gets more money. The only downside is leaving Tampa.

Why does wpg make that trade tho? I’d argue Perreault is the better player, and you give up Stanley? Not to mention similar cap hits? Not sure I see the reasoning unless you see something in bjugstad I don’t

Why would Cirelli sign it? He can take a $5 million per deal with Tampa, And take home more then what you're offering him.

Bjugstad adds size for one. 2nd I mainly paid more so that I didn’t have to hear pens fans arguing about it. Honestly though, I would be okay with this since I think the jets need to move on from perreault. He is not meant for a fourth line role which Winnipeg gives him. Sure he can play there, but his skill is more effective higher up in the lineup.

ya unfortunately we would have to offer around 7 million most likely because of Tampa Bay's great state tax. I would still do it though because he is an amazing player and fills a huge hole in our lineup.

There’s only a 10 % difference in income tax between here and Tampa. He would only be paying about 500000 more in income tax here. Imo he still gets more money here than he would in Tampa.

Good point didn't realize that. I just feel like he out of all the guys they would be looking to keep (Sergachev, Cernak, Gourde, Killorn, Johnson, Palat) is #1 priority for them. I feel like it would take around 7 million to really mess them up.

Fair enough, but I don’t think they can match this even if they move sergachev (unless they get someone to waive their ntc)

I feel Chevy would be about 98% more likely to look at the trade route for him anyway. The question is how much,# 10 might be a good start. I would only do that if Lundell is not there anymore.

If there's one guy from Tampa who Chevy could maybe realistically add it's Cernak, he should be working the phone hard to see what it'd take to add the big RHD with a mean streak.

Makes sense. Agree re perreault don’t love the role Maurice gave him particularly later in the season. Just think the value off. Jets shouldn’t be adding the prospect lol

I think if he offersheeted him for like 4.2 million (the most you could offer sheet someone for a second round pick) they should definitely do it as I don't exactly see Tampa being able to match that one. He is a great penalty killer as well which is an added bonus based on our attrocious PK for a good portion of the season. Again though, there is no way that Chevy has it in him to offer sheet someone but I would love it if he could prove me wrong. In my opinion if there is one option I could actually see Chevy pull off from Tampa would be getting someone like Gourde for dirt cheap. Actually a pretty solid player who could be a 2C on the team next year.

Idk how I feel about Gourde, he has had a nice playoffs but he's on Tampa and I'm pretty sure that's while on the 3rd line isn't he? Just not sure he could handle the 2C job, maybe he could but idk, seems too risky to me.

But why go the offersheet route, just trade for him, I can't see it taking a 1st, to me if it takes a 2nd round pick and something else like Gawanke or Niku then just do it, there's no guarantee Cernak would sign an offersheet either, if they trade for him he doesn't have much choice.

Gourde has always been a good player. It speaks to more of Tampas depth then his play he has had 50 + point seasons. He is a great skater with pretty solid playmaking ability. If we are giving up like a third or a fourth or something it seems like a no brainer to me.

Edit: yeah I just searched up his numbers:
17-18 64 points
18-19 49 points
19-20 30 points in 70 games in a much decreased role

I know you're high on him and Ehlers and Laine could make an okay center good enough so maybe it'd work, I'd just be wary that if it doesn't then what, guess he would add center depth at the very least and would be a better 3C then the Jets current bums they roll out on that line.. Lol

Still though he'd have to waive and idk if just playing with Ehlers and Laine is enough for him to leave Tampa for Winnipeg.
