At the draft trade for Domi

Description
Habs add 10OA, a younger speedy winger that needs a chance in the top 6 that the Habs were rumoured to be very high on when he was drafted and an NHL LHD that can play both sides.

Jets get a potential 2C that they need to sign to a new contract that only has 2 years of team control left plus a RHD prospect from Manitoba that has top 4 upside and a speedy winger that I'm a huge fan of. Both Brook and Ylonen are expansion draft exempt.

I like Ylönen A LOT but Roslovic is help right now ( Ylönen will need a season in the AHL ), but fair trade hard to decline

Brook= Niku
Roslovic= Ylonen
so it is basically Domi for a 10OA... and getting 2 NHL young player insetad of A Prospect... I like it! Well done
Can we send you one of Mete or Kulak so you won't need to sign Edmunston as we have too many LHD

Ylonen looked great at the World Junior Tournament whenever it was and Brook fits a need more then Mete or Niku does, this would actually be a pretty good trade for the Jets in a way, maybe Domi isn't worth the 10th overall pick but I'd way rather trade that pick for Domi and sign him long term to be the 2C then trade Laine for a center like Trocheck which is rumored, that'd be a massive loss for the Jets.

Hi @jimmyjets

Congrats on having an original idea, close in value and logical regarding teams needs.

I cant prononce myself because I dont know Roslovic enough. Does he play a physical game?

Also you did identify exemptions from the expansion draft for Ylonen and Brooks. I can see this beeing a problem for Montreal. What's the real value they would give to Niku if he get picked up after one season?

I don't see any way Winnipeg gives up 10OA and the main piece coming back is 2 years of Domi. That is bad overpay by the Jets.

Not with his new agent. You get him signed to a long term, fair value contract first and then well see what he's worth. Until he's signed, he's only valued as a player with team rights for two years and then UFA.

Roslovic doesn't really play a physical game no. He is a speed/skill player that hasn't ever had an extended look in our top 6 but is ready for that chance.

You have to lose someone in the expansion draft. If Seattle took Niku that means they didn't take Mete or Weber or Fleury, or whomever else was left unprotected so I would expect they would value him at least equivalently to the most likely piece they would lose if he wasn't there.

I get that. To me it is 2 years of team control and if he doesn't sign long term we can likely flip him after next season to recoup the 1st round pick, although it likely would be a later first. Adding the 2 expansion exempt prospects (Brook as a RHD and Ylonen as a Roslovic replacement, potentially able to step in for Wheeler as he declines) helped absorb the blow for me.

In my mock we were able to get Domi signed medium/long term at a reasonable hit. Maybe that's not realistic in real life? It could be though and if it doesn't work I think the Jets still have outs to try to make it work.

Sure. We all have different opinions. Realistically, I just don't see the Jets having any interest in getting mixed up with another player angling for the Trouba solution.

I don’t see why Domi wouldn't be happy to sign long term for beeing 2C with good wingers in the canadian city he was born.

Possibly, but his new agent specializes in getting his his client's overpaid and if they are not overpaid then he walks them straight to UFA through arbitration. Either option isn't worth gambling 10OA on.

His new agent is specialized in going the hard line by striking during pre-season games, not getting overpays. Perlini, Bennett, Anderson and Athanasiou are not overpaid. Marner could be debatable.

Domi want to fight because he is unhappy with his role and the salary linked. If Winnipeg plays him at 2C and pays him like such, I dont see any problem.

That's fine and dandy. But until he has signed a new, reasonable contract, I don't see the Jets having any interest. So, once he's re-signed then we can talk about value. Even then, there's no chance the Jets move 10OA for him.

I see it the other way around. It's an advantage for Winnipeg to get him unsigned. Domi would be a 7M player if he could repeat his 2018-19 season. He will only get 4-4.5 in arbitration. Winnipeg saves 4-6M in the next 2 years while they wait to see Domi prove himself before commiting a big paycheck for the next 6-8 years.

But I understand Winnipeg fans having trust issues toward RFAs going UFA. Domi isn’t Trouba though...
