That Manson trade might be the biggest overpay for Manson on Capfriendly. And there are hundreds if not thousands. Liljegren (who still has top 4 potential, even if he doesnt have top pair, and just turned 21), Holl who the fanbase hates despite doing quite well as a #4 next to muzzin, and would be perfectly fine carrying the bottom pair otherwise, Toronto's 2nd round this year which is 44th OV, Mikheyev who is an RFA and a clear middle 6 winger who's huge, and a B prospect. All of that, a potential top 4 dman, a #4/#5 dman, a 2nd/3rd line W, a 2nd rounder, a B prospect, for one top 4 defensemen who is more defensively oriented, and a 3rd.
Also, people seem to always forget, Manson has only 2 years left on his deal and is already 29. He is not improving. He had one abberation season with 37 points, and outside of that hit 17 once. There is no offensive upside, not even in the same realm as Muzzin. Getting him means you are betting on 2 years of grit and steadiness for a guy who has never been a top pair defensemen outside of one hot year of his career. Seriously, this trade package looks like something you make for Miro Heiskanen to make the trade value equal in NHL 20, but in real life would never happen because one team loses so many pieces, and the other doesnt want to lose a star for a huge package of lesser pieces. For Josh Manson, I would be hesitant to package Liljegren and the 2nd. Media has hyped his value way too high.
