That's an easy no for the Sabres. It's just too bad a contract for a team with so much dead weight already

What? What the hell?

Look, I get your point about having enough dead weight already (Okposo's worth 1,75 mil and Skinner's worth 5,5 mil) but Backlund, despite being slightly overpaid, would be a great fit for you guys to NOT rush Cozens'development.
I've said this time and time again, learn from your Mittlestadt mistake. Rushing and ruining Cozens would pretty much end your hopes of contending in 4-5 years.

You take this trade and run. If anything it the Flames who reject this pretty easily

The key fact you're overlooking is at this point in their careers Cozens is twice the prospect Mittelstadt was. Why is acquiring Backlund's crappy contract the only way to shelter Cozens? There are other more suitable candidates who they could bring in and even on of their own to retain (Larsson) who can take the pressure off Cozens without the price tag.

That Gaudreau trade is asking a lot for a guy who’s going to walk soon anyway 😬

The Devils decline this. Regardless of what you think JG’s value is, it’s way too much for this franchise to give up.

Stadel, I respectfully think you are missing a couple key facts. As Kakko stayed Backlund is actually a very good two way center, can score and very very good defensively. He would be a great 2nd or 3rd (more likely) as well as some great locker room presence as he is very well respected by fans and team mates alike here. Also, you are going to have to pay The and Brandon close to 5 million combined in the next year or two anyway. Here you get a plug in strong two way center, with a little grit I might add as well. And you recieved a very good B offensive prospect under his entry level deal for 2 more years of control. And of course, whether you like it or not , you need a centerman right now for more reasons than moving Cozens along slowly.

So a guy that has been, up to this year, 80-100 points, top 8-10 in scoring for the entire league for two years and a home town marketing dream for the Devil's isn't worth a starting top 6 D, a washed out prospect and 2 firsts? I respectfully disagree, and his contract is for two more full seasons. So what would you part with, you surely can't say you would like to see Johnny in a Devil's uniform?

And Johnny wants to be close to Mommy as well so will sign a hometown discount no doubt about it.

NJ says way off. We don’t want him at this point. Especially for that price. I wouldn’t give any of those pieces straight up for Gaudreau except for scissons

Those two first are a 7OA and lottery next season. What you, and every Flames fan isn’t understanding is how vital these picks are to filling the many gaps that NJ has. This team has no defense, very few wingers, and no depth - so yes, JG is not worth it right now. Also, all this home town crap clearly shows you aren’t from NJ. JG grew up in south Jersey and was a Flyers fan. The home town discount doesn’t apply to NJ. This isn’t meant to say that Johnny isn’t worth an NHL player, a prospect, and a first - he is - but not on a rebuilding team.
