Another one of these Hickey to Detroit deals without looking at Detroit's defensive depth (maybe your new enough you didn't see this trade being shot down the previous umpteenth times). Hickey is a 7th/8th d-man right? Detroit is rumored to be in the market for free agent Torey Krug, but even if they don't get him---Detroit next year will still have:top pair DeKeyser & Hronek, 2nd pair: Nemeth and Moritz Seider, 3rd pair: Lindstrom & Cholowski and their 7th d-man is Alex Biega. Hronek, Seider, Lindstrom, & Cholowski are all 19-22 yrs old and 1st or 2nd round picks. They also have to decide if they want their own 7/8th d-man Madison Bowey who is a 25 yrs old RFA back.
Oh and this gets even worse if they draft Drysdale with the 4th pick or if Jared McIsaac (their 2nd round from 2018) forces his way after training camp onto the roster like Cholowski did--only to be sent down later).
It's a bad organizational fit and the reason why Detroit fans keeps saying no to all these deals to Detroit is that other teams fans think: oh, Detroit is terrible we can trade them our worst player and still get something from them--even a 7th. Nope. Rebuilding teams want draft picks and prospects. They don't want soon to be 32 year 7th/8th d-men.
Pass.
...but I do think you are thinking correctly about that Toronto deal. So there is your positive.
