Yeah, that nhltraderumors garbage Flames trade is so ridiculous I can't believe anyone would regurgitate it.

That's more than the Leafs gave up to get Andersen 4 years ago when he was still just hitting his prime and had years of control left.

He’s a better goalie now no body thought leafs would get a first for Kapanen yet they did so just cause you believe it to be ridiculous doesn’t mean it won’t happen

I'll repost this from a previous thread:

So here is what Lebrun said about Andersen:

From there a terrible rumour site spun it into the trade you're talking about. There's no basis to it. Here is the article from the BS site:

Worse thing about the Kapanen trade is now we will see a wave of ridiculous trade offers from some Toronto fans using the Pittsburg trade as to support their trade suggestions. Just about everyone agrees it was a lopsided trade in Toronto's favour.

If he's a better goalie now, then why in the sweet eff would Dubas even consider trading him? There aren't a ton of Top 10 goalies out there on a $5M short-term flexible contract.

I will agree completely that CGY should consider making a move to acquire Andersen, because he is a very, very good goalie. But he hasn't morphed into the "consistently elite" goalie that TOR thought they acquired. If he had, these mock trades wouldn't be getting posted. I can assure you that CGY would never go anywhere near the Rittich + Bennett + 1st structure that keeps showing up on here.

Holtby, Lehner, MAF, Murray, TALBOT, Greiss, Khudobin, are all available for the cost of: zero assets, just $$$. And you could easily make the case that Talbot on a $3.5-4M short-term deal is more valuable than Andersen. So this common deal structure with CGY needs to change. Give up great assets and the younger goalie with upside for the slightly better, but older goalie on a UFA-expiring deal who then ruins CGY's chances of extending Talbot (who wants to play 50+ games next season)? It doesn't make sense.

Yeah when I saw that Leafs trade I was pretty stunned. Kapanen is a very good player and is likely to rocket launch playing with Crosby or Malkin regularly, but that deal is not representative of the market for other players and goalies -- there is such a large group of UFA options in net that picks/prospects won't be moving at the same value level as the Kapanen deal.

It's NOT going to happen.

Kapanen has lots of team control left.

The Flames aren't paying that price for Andersen now that he's 30 and only has one year before free agency.

Agree...nothing ever comes to fruition from that site....Leafs would be foolish not to accept that if it was offered in my opinion

I think the feeling from people in the know in the NHL is that Pittsburgh is taking one last stab at the Cup with the core they have. Thus desperation trade. Well done for Toronto to capitalize on it, but they cannot expect to get the same type of return for other players rumored to be on the trading block (Kerfoot, Johnsson, Engvall, Andersen).
