Ottawa doesn't even consider this. A pair of 2nd liners and a horrible contract isn't getting a top 5 pick.

Zaitsev has a better deal than Seabrook. That's a loss for Ottawa

They are signed for the same term, and Seabrook is only 2 million more. They are both top 6 D-men.

I like Kubalik but not more than Raymond. Not a huge fan of Strome, he doesn't really fit in our plans up the middle (Byfield/Stutzle, Norris, Brown, White, Tierney, Pinto). Seabrook's contract is ATROCIOUS. With him in the trade you're not getting the 5th overall. Like, remove that pick altogether and it might be considered.

This is assuming trading the 5oa and acquiring Seabrook aren't both dealbreakers on their own, which they very much are. We're also not trading both our Russians when we're trying to bring one over from the KHL (Zub).

Seabrook is 7 years older, declining way more quickly, is already worse, AND he makes 2.4mil more. That deal is substantially worse than Zaitsev.

Kubalik is great but the guy at 5, whomever that may be, will be more valuable for the sens right now because the odds are they won't pick a left shot winger. They have plenty of them in Formenton, abramov, balcers, Tkachuk, Duclair. The RH wingers, or Dman in Drysdale, and the centers are more important to acquire.
I also don't mind Zaitsev and don't want to downgrade on D to Seabrook with a bigger cap and greater regression. Seabrook is going to cost something significant to trade away. I'd consider trading for him in a package with the Hawks 2021 1st. But that's about it
